20230702: today’s countdown to SPACE DAY! was LEGO 21110 the Research Institute from 2014 with 165 pieces. this was the 8th of the LEGO Ideas projects, designed by geoscientist Ellen Kooijman. the instructional booklet provides a bit of history about why she chose to design and submit her project, as well as some really interesting information about Paleontology, Astronomy, and Chemistry, as those are the three fields represented in this build. while the build is very small, each profession is very unique with very different pieces. the dinosaur skeleton definitely took me the longest to assemble but it is very cute :) with yesterday’s LEGO Starry Night build, I talked a little bit about how humans have always looked to the stars for inspiration and exploration. today’s build connects the science of our own world to help us understand where we came from and how all life is connected (paleontology), how the universe is connected (astronomy), and the actual chemical processes we’ll need to understand before we travel into space (chemistry).
