“ we only came close to dying six or seven times , which i think is pretty good . ”
Maria knows it’s a bad thing that that actually is a good record for them. Sure, the risks and the missions are magnified -- that’s why they bring the Avengers in for situations like these -- but it doesn’t stop her heart from skipping a beat every time one of them goes silent over the comms. Maybe she’s too protective of them -- not that she’d ever say that out loud to any of them, because, well, it has no bearing on the job. But the team is Fury’s passion project and he’s entrusted them to her, and there’s something to be said about that level of trust from a man who rarely trusts anyone. She’d really hate to have to tell him that one of the Avengers is dead.
She’d probably hop on a shuttle with the Guardians before mentioning it. Just to get out of range.
“I really think that if we try, we could get it down to two or three times. And then down to zero times. Because I’m not about to haul any of you out of the rubble after a fight.” She looks over at Janet. “For a bunch of geniuses, you take too many risks.”
