Art Trade #5
Sorry for the delay! I was busy with many things along the way! But I hope I'm still in time.
But here's my half of my Art Trade with the amazing @labbyloud! My half features her amazing OC, Elizabeth Stern and I also took the chance to draw Dr. Leonard Stern as well!
I hope I made justice to both and having reached the bar the previous artists who drew them, placed it.
Dr. Stern wears a different suit than in canon, because since he appears in a flashback episode, we never know how he looks in the present. We don't even know if he's alive! So, I decided to give him a new suit!
Am I still in time to do more fanarts of Dr. Stern?
Also! I'm continuing my quest of drawing more scenarios! I hope I have nailed his studio properly!
This is her half of our Art Trade!
And I hope you like this Art Trade!
Thank you very much for giving me this chance!
Leonard Stern for @labbyloud :) Glad to give him more fanart. I love random minor simpsons characters getting more love (speaking as a j loren pryor enjoyer myself lol). Hope you like it!
1966.
Would You Believe by Don Adams.
The series finale of He & She aired on March 13, 1968. The series only ran for one season of 26 episodes. The series was about comic book artist Dick Hollister (Richard Benjamin), his wife Paula Hollister (Paula Prentiss), and his comic creation Jetman, who had been adapted for TV and protrayed by Oscar North (Jack Cassidy). Benjamin and Prentiss were married in real life. The final episode was about a dinner party that was thrown into disarray by the fear of a possible accidental poisoning. Alice Ghostley, who appeared in this episode, co-starred with Prentiss on the shortlived super hero show Captain Nice. ("What's in the Kitty" He & She, TV Event)
This Is Not “Repatriation”
The Met’s deal with the Greek government to “repatriate” billionaire Leonard Stern’s Cycladic art collection is not what it seems...
Following secret negotiations a deal was reached involving 161 objects. The agreement was signed between the Met, the Greek Ministry of Culture, the private Cycladic-Goulandris Museum in Athens (officially named The Museum of Cycladic Art), and a new entity named Hellenic Ancient Culture Institute (HACI), based in Delaware and created especially for the purposes of this deal.
The Met will exhibit the objects for at least 25 years (with the possibility of an extension to 50 years) and will receive an endowment to further promote this collection. Fifteen of the figurines will travel to Athens for a temporary exhibition, lasting a year. This close-doors exhibition opened at the Cycladic-Goulandris Museum in November 2, with the archaeological and heritage community protesting outside. After 10 years from the signing of the deal, some of the antiquities will periodically travel to Greece to be exhibited at the Goulandris Museum (and/or other museums suggested by them), in exchange for antiquities from Greece which will be loaned to the Met.
Does this sound like repatriation?
November 3, 2022 Hyperallergic article
[the 161 Stern’s Cycladic artifacts have been illegally excavated/exported from Greece and also there is no official verification of their authenticity]
Once the art market started valuing cycladic figurines so highly their object status and context got pretty much totally lost. Sadly, we now only know the specific contexts for about 40% of the figurines, which means we’ve lost the corner pieces to our puzzle of working out their meanings.
The number of forgeries also soared when the figurines became art. In part this is due to aniconic nature of our figurines. With very basic marble training almost anyone can fool the market. So long as you use a plausible Aegean marble, there is no way of checking the authenticity, especially since provenance has flown out the window when it comes to Cycladic figurines...
