Suede reinvigorated Brett Anderson and that reflected on his own solo career, which continues to be disregarded for way too many stupid reasons connected with his own past. Still, the latter came back in the form of Black Rainbows. Yes, the record makes sense now in the context of being a trial run of what Suede did later on, since this is Brett Anderson on his own attempting to be, well, Suede. To be honest, he equips himself well for the challenge and one wishes Suede's reunion might have only been a touring concern. Then again, Black Rainbows showed the latter could've been impossible – his old band was on his mind and he basically noticed that he's slowly making the similar music he would've made with them. I mean, the tune on the link could've been one of their comeback singles.
