"1971 in Tokyo - St.George Budapest FC" My Pencil Drawing. www.jamieosborne.com.au #FaberCastell #nawden #artFido #johnnywarren #ralerasic "Before the start of the 1971 New South Wales season, St George Budapest, captained by Johnny Warren and coached by Rale Rasic, was invited to compete in a four-team tournament in Japan. It was a valuable opportunity to strengthen ties between Australian and Japanese football. The opposition included the Japan National Team and the reigning Olympic bronze medallists, a Japan B-side and Danish leading first division team Frem. St George finished top of the table, lifting the trophy. Johnny was voted best player. The victory was a milestone for Australian football because it was the first time an Australian club had won an international tournament. This St George team had 10 players participating in Australia’s qualification campaign for the 1974 World Cup."
