tax… duo…?
Back then, Wemmbu didn’t have to rush his visits with Egg. Not like he ever wanted to anyways—it was nice to spend some time with him and Minute—especially after a hard day of fighting. But now… now Wemmbu couldn’t even consider spending a short second with them.
Not when he was constantly on edge about whether or not someone discovered his identity and wanted to follow him. Not when there was a slim chance of Parrot tailing him as he went around. It was just way too risky to stick around his defenseless friend. Sure, he had… Minute. But that wasn’t enough to protect him against a mob of people. Not now, not ever.
So when Wemmbu finally took a short stop at the End, of course Egg had tried to exploit it.
Wemmbu didn’t mean to stay long.
That had been the plan, at least.
In and out. Quick stop. Just enough time to drop off what he needed, maybe check in if Egg happened to be around—and then he’d be gone again, slipping back into invisibility like he had been for the past… however long it had been.
Days blurred together at this point.
The End was quiet when he stepped through, cold air seeping through his skin as he trotted in.
The End wasn’t necessarily… silent. It was almost never silent and never loud—but rather it had that low, constant hum hung in the air, steady and distant, like something alive just out of reach. It wrapped around him the second he arrived, settling into his ears in a way that should’ve been familiar.
Usually was.
Today, it felt louder. Or maybe he was just more aware of it? Who knows, really…
Wemmbu exhaled slowly, rolling his shoulders back as he moved forward, adjusting to the space out of habit more than anything else. His grip tightened briefly around the item in his hand before he let it go again, flexing his fingers like they’d been locked in place for too long.
He didn’t stop walking. Didn’t pause.
Didn’t think about the way his steps dragged just slightly more than usual, or how the usual sharp awareness he carried felt… dulled at the edges.
It didn’t matter.
He wasn’t staying long enough for it to matter.
“Egg,” he called out, voice steady—maybe a little quieter than usual, but still controlled. “You here?”
For a second, nothing answered him.
Just that same low hum, stretching out across the End like it always did.
“There you are.” Egg’s voice came from just behind him, closer than expected, softer than usual—but threaded with something else. Something that didn’t quite match the calm tone.
Wemmbu didn’t flinch, didn’t turn right away. “…well you certainly sound dramatic,” he said instead, like nothing was off, like everything was exactly as it should be.
“Bro- You’ve been gone for days.”
Wemmbu shrugged slightly, finally glancing over his shoulder. “Busy.”
Egg didn’t respond immediately, which stretched out the silence for a bit too long.
Wemmbu frowned slightly. “What.” For a moment, his throat seemed to clog up with this feeling of guilt. Which… it shouldn’t have. But it did anyways.
“…what?” Wemmbu repeated, huffing out a laugh in the process.
Egg tilted his head slightly, like he was trying to piece something together. His gaze dragged—not in a weird way, just… observant. Taking in the little things Wemmbu didn’t bother hiding anymore.
Or maybe didn’t have the energy to.
“…dude,” Egg said slowly, “…you look like trash.”
Wemmbu blinked once, baffled by the sudden burst of rudeness the other gave him out of nowhere.
Then scoffed, quick and automatic. “Oh- thank you bro.”
“I’m serious,” Egg pushed, stepping a little closer now. “Like—bro, when was the last time you slept?”
Wemmbu’s expression didn’t change.
He turned away slightly, like that would end the conversation before it even really started. “I said I’m busy. That hasn’t just- changed in the last five seconds dude.”
“Busy doesn’t mean you just stop functioning, bro.”
“I’m functioning fine.”
Egg let out a quiet, disbelieving breath. “No, you’re not.”
“Bro, you saw me for like ten seconds,” he said, tone flattening slightly. “Relax.”
Egg’s expression shifted, just slightly. Softer, but more certain now. “When was the last time you actually stopped,” he asked, quieter this time. “Like, actually stopped. Not just… standing still for a second.”
Wemmbu exhaled through his nose, slower now. “…I don’t have time for this.”
“Yeah, you do.”
“I don’t.”
“You literally came here bro…” He shot back, exasperated.
“Okay well—that’s different bro.” Egg took another step closer. Not all up in his face to push for answers. Just… closing the distance enough that Wemmbu couldn’t pretend he wasn’t there.
“…you said it was a quick stop,” Egg said. “So take a quick break. It’s not gonna kill you.” Wemmbu let out a short, humorless laugh. “Yeah, actually, it might.”
Egg didn’t laugh. Didn’t even smile. Which to Wemmbu, meant jokes should probably be put to a halt. Unfortunately for him, that rule was a bit forgotten. “Dude- you can’t be serious…”
“I’m always serious.”
“That’s not—” Egg stopped himself, exhaling instead, like he was trying to not snap. “Bro, you can’t keep doing this.”
“I can.”
“You shouldn’t.”
“I don’t really care what I ‘should’ be doing right now.” Egg’s jaw tightened slightly. “…you’re gonna burn yourself out.”
Wemmbu’s eyes flicked back toward him, sharper this time. “You’re overreacting.”
“You are,” Wemmbu insisted, but there was less bite to it now. Less certainty. Egg noticed, of course. How could he not?
“…dude,” he said, softer again, “Just sit down for like—five minutes. That’s it. I’m not asking you to stay forever.”
Wemmbu rolled his eyes, but it didn’t land the same way it usually did. Didn’t carry that usual edge. “Jeez… you’re extra pushy today.”
“Good.”
“That’s not necessarily a good thing.”
“It is if it gets you to stop moving for two seconds.”
Egg watched his expression carefully, like he was waiting for him to push back again. He didn’t. “Just five minutes,” Egg tried again, quieter now. “At least this once bro?”
He watched as Wemmbu’s face stayed completely still, but Egg knew better. He knew that in reality, cogs were turning and trying to formulate a decision. That’s how it always was with him.
“…fine.”
Egg practically beamed—not on the outside, anyway. But it was pretty obvious he got worked up at the response considering how fast he moved at the mere thought of it. “Alright, bro. C’mere.”
Wemmbu hesitantly walked towards the taller one, slowly making his way. Egg was sat down by a chorus plant with his back pressed against the coldness of it, waiting. As soon as Wemmbu crouched next to Egg—his vision suddenly angled upwards at the dark void most people referred the “sky of the End” as. Before Wemmbu could process any other details his eyes just so happened to gaze upon, Egg began braiding silky—but slightly messy—purple hair in two separate sections.
Wemmbu watched as the other pulled out light purple flowers from his inventory to stick in the small gaps of the braids. “Dude, you need to be more careful. And stop drinking so many invis potions. They’re clearly messing with your health—and body…” He started, although Wemmbu wasn’t really paying attention. Mostly focused on his surroundings, and also mostly because the delicate touch was making his eyelids heavy.
“-bro. Are you even listening?”
“Yeah, yeah, whatever...” He grumbled out, too tired to even speak. Something along the lines of invisible pots… health… Wemmbu deemed it not worth thinking about.
Egg eyed him knowingly, considering whether or not what he said was tbe truth. Wemmbu was eventually jerked out of his thoughts by Egg's voice. “You could at least try to stop by every once in a while to heal or like—just spend time with me. I get lonely too, bro.”
“Mmm… I’ll think about it.” Egg paused his braiding, gently bringing his hands down to Wemmbu's hip, turning the demon around, and pulling him flush against his chest, earning a surprised grunt from Wemmbu.
"You got to be kidding me...”
Before Wemmbu could give a snarky retort, Egg brought his hands up to the top of Wemmbu's ribs, gently scratching at the soft area.
Wemmbu's rebuttal quickly died in a sudden yelp at Egg's ministrations.
“WhahaHA—! Whahahat are youhuhu doing—“ To that, Eggchan silently hushed him by scribbling on his sides in a slightly teasing manner. Bubbly laughter immediately emerged from the man under him, bouncing off the walls as the supposed “torture” continued. “HEHEY! EheheHEHegg—!”
“This is your punishment, bro.”
Wemmbu was supposed to be this scary, taunting murderer for Mojang's sake! He'd killed hundreds of players, escaped near-death experiences, hell, he even beat FlameFrags in a fight!
Yet here he was, in a simple display of domesticity. Just him and Egg.
“AhahAHA! Stoh-ohop!” He protested, weakly batting at the offending hands. Though, it was to no avail.
“C’mon, bro,” Egg murmured, tone light—but there was something else tucked under it now. Something softer. “You really thought I wasn’t gonna do anything?”
Wemmbu huffed out a breath that immediately hitched the second those fingers dipped just slightly lower along his sides. “Thihihis isn’t—!” he tried, voice already slipping despite himself. “This isn’t f-fahair! AHAha—!”
“Nah it’s totally fair,” Egg shot back easily, a quiet grin slipping into his voice. “You disappear for days, come back looking like you got hit by a truck, and then act like everything’s fine? This seems pretty fair to me.”
His fingers shifted again—grazing gently against the uppermost part of Wemmbu’s ribs. But to Wemmbu, those gentle fingers were more maddening than anything.
“Ahaha! Noho—!” His shoulders jerked, a sharper laugh slipping out before he could stop it, his hands immediately coming down to grab at Egg’s wrists—though they never actually made it there.
“Dude,” Egg let out a quiet laugh of his own, not even attempting to pull away. “I would have never guessed you were this sensitive.”
“Bro- Shuhut uhuhup…” Wemmbu sucked in a breath like he’d been given a chance to recover, a heart-swelling smile plastered on his face. Well, it certainly made Egg smile. I mean—how could he not? It was nice to see the bloodthirsty killer so at peace. Egg was soon dragged out of his thoughts as a squeal came from the man under him. Whoops… forgot about the tickling.
“AhahAHA! Ohoho my god—!” The laugh that came out of him this time was lighter—less sharp, more… airy, despite how quickly it kept breaking apart his words. “Stohohop! Eheh—Egg—!”
“Hmm…” He pondered for moment, seeming to weigh and consider his options. Then went straight back to pinching at the other’s waist. “Nah, bro.”
Wemmbu shook his head quickly, breath catching between each laugh as he tried—and failed—to keep any kind of composure.
“Yohou’re—! You’re suhuhuch—!” he tried again, but the words fell apart immediately into another string of vibrant giggles when Egg’s fingers shifted slightly upward towards his neck. Egg noticed the reaction instantly.
“…oh?” he said quietly. Wemmbu began to feel his cheeks warm up at the realization of his friend.
“Ehehegg… Do-dohon’t.” Nervous giggles formed as he watched hands slowly walk up to his collarbone. Unfortunately, the demand came out way less convincing than he wanted it to—especially when there was still a smile stuck on his face that he hadn’t gotten rid of yet.
“Bro,” he said, slower now. “Why are you smiling.”
“…shut up. I’m not.”
Egg huffed out a quiet laugh, shaking his head slightly. “Bro, you’re so bad at lying right now.”
Wemmbu opened his mouth to argue again, and immediately snapped it shut when Egg’s fingers barely brushed upward again.
“Eheh— don’t!” He cut himself off, shoulders tensing as his grip tightened around Egg’s wrists.
Egg didn’t miss that either. Didn’t miss the way he leaned back just slightly into him.
“WahaHAHA—! EHEhehegg!”Wemmbu’s head dropped forward slightly as a stream of laughs broke out of him again, softer this time—but constant, slipping between every attempt at words. “STAHAhahap!”
“Five minutes,” Egg reminded casually, like this was completely normal. Like Wemmbu wasn’t currently falling apart in his arms. “You agreed.”
“IHihit’s been wahaHAHAY—wahay over fihihive minutes!” He rebuked, tears of mirth pricking at the corners of his eyes from all the laughter.
Egg just chuckled quietly, letting his fingers slow again—not stopping, just easing up enough to keep him right there on that edge.
“Relax bro,” he murmured, softer now, the teasing still there—but lighter. “You’re fine.”
Wemmbu shook his head weakly, still laughing under his breath as he tried to catch it.
“Youhuhu-you’re so ahahannoying…”
“Yeah,” Egg said easily. Almost as if he hadn’t just tickled his friend breathless. And you’re sensitive.”
Egg began noticing the small things—the slow rise and fall of the mace user’s chest as he tried to suck in as much air as possible, the way his hair was even messier than it was when he first came into the End. And the way his face was still tinted rosy pink with that dorky smile of his. All these tiny details made the ends of his lips curve upwards—taking in the rareness of this situation.
It was hard to experience a blissful moment of peace in a place like the Unstable SMP, so the fact he could share this memory with his best friend made his body relax in content.
Tired from it all, they both non-verbally agreed that their antics should be put on a pause for now. Wemmbu slightly shifted to get more comfortable against the eyeball, and Egg accepted it. As Wemmbu felt his eyelids droop, his arm unconsciously wrapped around Egg in a slow, steady motion.

.
A few minutes later, a voidling familiar to the two bodies on the ground walked out of his home. His line of sight was immediately directed onto the pair as he walked towards them. Once he got a better look, a soft grin took up the space of his face.
“Well, this is new…” he whispered quietly, not wanting to wake up the sleeping beauties.
Minutetech headed back to their humble abode to grab a blanket off his bed, then went outside yet again. He slowly draped the covers over the duo, observing the rare calmness of it all.
Sleep well, you two.
