Just want to go on a little short rant about The Addams Family comics and movies and the queerness/politics surrounding it, cause people think the "Wednesday" Show isn't queer/political, and some of the audience doesn't want it to be, however i am here to say that The Addams's will ALWAYS be queer and political.
First off, The comics started in 1938 and was made to subvert the norms of a stereotypical American nuclear family. POLITICAL
Then the tv show came out in 1962, and was entirely different than the shows of the time, like i dream of jeannie, and bewitched. In this show, Gomez the father figure doesn't have a job, nor does he want one, Morticia also doesn't have a long term job, however she has multiple instances of finding one and Gomez couldn't be prouder. Morticia isn't a housewife, she doesn't go around cleaning all day, cooking, and slaving away only for her partner to not notice, no, both of them genuinely love each other. (sometimes, a little too much, hence the arm kissing) That is... POLITCIAL
Then the movies came out in 1991, and 1993. In The Addams family, they are forced out of their own home by festers brainwasher, someone who sees the richness of the Addams's and wants it for themselves. Gomez says you can have anything, just give me my brother. The undying love for family, or found family is something the queer community knows much about, and i would say this is very reflective of found family. (As quite literally fester was "lost" and now he's "found") Then in The Addams family values, Wednesday and the outcasts make a speech about colonialism, and the true american history that went down. Say it with me, that is... POLITICAL, AND QUEER.
Now, the Wednesday show. You expect me to say a Werewolf with rainbow claws, wore a lesbian flag sweater, and who's parents wanted to send her to a werewolf conversion therapy camp ISN'T GAY? Please.
Rant over. I rest my case.
