so I decided to take a crack at what I think javert looks like in my minds eye and basically plot out my design for when I cosplay him. I severely hope this passes the vibe check with my fellow les mis buddies. :)).

Barricade Day part 2. "He sleeps although so much he was denied. He lived and when his dear love left him died. It happened of itself, in the easy way that in the morning night time follows day." This was so rushed at the end to have it done in time for the end of today so some of this turned out badly I'm so sorry but I worked really hard on this ❤️ It's all hand done and my scanners broken so I apologise for photo quality. ~

One day, Cosette chanced to look at herself in her mirror, and she said to herself: “Really!” It seemed to her almost that she was pretty. This threw her in a singularly troubled state of mind. Up to that moment she had never thought of her face. She saw herself in her mirror, but she did not look at herself. And then, she had so often been told that she was homely; Jean Valjean alone said gently: “No indeed! no indeed!” At all events, Cosette had always thought herself homely, and had grown up in that belief with the easy resignation of childhood. And here, all at once, was her mirror saying to her, as Jean Valjean had said: “No indeed!” That night, she did not sleep. “What if I were pretty!” she thought. “How odd it would be if I were pretty!”

Like other young artists of his generation, John White Alexander (1856-1915) had advanced his training in Paris, there combining a fluid technique with a keen understanding of the asymmetric spatial principles of Japanese art. More than the book or the mirror, it is the back of the model’s dress, spread out in sinuous curves, as she bends to fix her hair, which forms the true subject of this painting. Her face, only present as a reflection, masks the same secret beauty found in Cosette’s realisation - and subsequent illustration.
