Let’z - Sugg Savage (Prod. by Hymn)

After the last few weeks within America, I felt that light joy were in short supply within our community. We’d seen such misery in such a short time- continued oppression in Black neighborhoods all over the country, growing discontent with the economic situations in our environments, wondering when the next person of our own would end up a hashtag for all of the wrong reasons- it was dizzying. Self-care became the words of the day(s) for so many of us. Whether that was through disconnecting from social media, or ranting out our frustrations through it – turning off the television because it was playing out the pain on a loop and we didn’t want to be subjected to it- we did what we could to keep ourselves together in the face of all around us. And some of us turned to music. Writing, singing, recording, performing – this was a way we learned to heal going back so many generations. 

Personally, I felt more inclined to listen to music than anything else. And that brought me to the great duo of Sugg and Hymn’s production really draws you in- it’s a subtle bop that tugs at your ear, evoking the best of summer (the sounds, the sun, the joy) but it’s Sugg’s vocals that deliver that feeling – that feeling you may have gotten the first time you went to church or been around folk that really want the best for you, friends, family, whomever. That presence is one that once you feel it, nothing really compares to it. And she surely sang that feeling into my spirit. The song itself carries an energy to it that’s uplifting and moving, and if you’ve ever wanted a feel-good anthem that you can depend on, this would be it.
