Small Tips to Improve your Air Quality
Ahhh… spring! I love this time of year. Longer days, warmer temperatures and everything’s turning green! Of course, with some people’s allergies beginning to flare up, it’s not all roses for everyone.
Air quality is important whether you have allergies or not. Your indoor air may be polluted with fumes from your new carpet or paint, dust from that last wind storm, or just grease and smoke from that last failed recipe! Air quality can be improved by ventilation, filtration or humidification.
Ventilation consists of the simple exchange of air from outdoors to the inside of your home. This helps to get rid of bad air and dilute what’s left with fresh outdoor air.
Filtration can be accomplished by installing a filter or air cleaner in your home or furnace. Portable filtration units are available, but air cleaners installed as part of your home comfort system will be the most effective.
Adding humidity to your home will help get rid of that dry skin and raspy throat in the morning. It will also help to lower your heating bills as you feel warmer when the humidity level of your home is higher.
Indoor air quality can be improved by spending money on the best equipment, but a few small things can also help a lot. Change your furnace filter more often and use your rangehood while cooking to limit pollutants in your air. Open your windows to air out your home. Don’t use your bathroom fan when showering to help boost the humidity in your home.
