From the time we were born and even the time we are currently at right now, we obsess on planning out our whole life. Some parents even plan the whole life of their children and some are really followed. For some reasons, we find satisfaction in this. As human as we are, we get so satisfied every time we are sure of what will happen tomorrow and in our future. We are so afraid to mess up in the middle so we do our very best to plan it out, organize and follow the schedules.
However, in our verse today, God wants us to understand that we may have so many plans in our minds; we may have organized it all, He still has better plans for us. Our heart harbors so much evil and our plans are all selfish so God wants to rewire it and make it the plans that fit His purpose. We sometimes claim that what we plan for ourselves are better than anyone’s but the truth is, God’s plans are the best!
Time will come that all the plans we have organized and plotted will not be followed for so many reasons. First, it may become a hindrance to what God really plans for you. God will take away our plans especially if it will become our stumbling block and if it will become the thing that will stop us from receiving His grace.
Second, it is not glorifying God. We really have plans that we thought that it can glorify God but in fact, it will do the opposite. Again, our hearts are pure evil and we only delight in sin. Therefore, we cannot really plan anything without the desire to sin. It is either a plan that will make us prideful and arrogant or a plan that is very selfish or a plan that will make us dwell in sexual immorality.
Third, God has better plans. There are really times that we thought that this certain job is really the best for you but God did not grant it and you grow very sad and blame God for it. However, we must always remember that God only wants to give us hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11). So if God takes away something we achieved, it is because He will give you the best of the best in return.
Therefore, as Christians, let us always be reminded that many are our plans in our hearts but it is the Lord’s purpose that will prevail. We must not harbor hate and blame God for all our missed opportunities and for not answering our prayers, instead, we must always hold on to His promise that everything has a purpose and that He will not do anything to harm us but He will do everything to prosper us.
So, every time we have that desire in our hearts, we must lift it up to God and surrender it. Surrendering means giving it all to Him so He has the right to alter it and change it for His glory and for our sake. God is not selfish, He just wants us to prosper and to live our lives just as what He commanded us to live.
He wants us to live our lives Christ-like and the only way to do that is to let Him become the captain of our lives and let Him drive.
Let us not hinder God’s purpose for us and let us accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior so He will be able to drive our ship of life to the very best of His purpose. Whatever plans we have in our hearts, let us offer it to God and let God decide if it is good for us or bad for us. May the peace of God be with us all. Amen.
