I love Witcher modern AUs so much!!! they're so wholesome and ahhh i just love all the gay content. Maybe geralt and jaskier start a new job together? Or jaskier is a musician and geralt comes to one of his shows?? (love your writing btw❤❤)
Thank you for the ask! this is my first prompt today so I feel like I should mention I wrote this while chugging too-sweet tea and slightly undercooked rice.
“What’s your real name?” Geralt asked, sliding easily into the seat beside the singer. Dandelion handed his guitar case to the bartender, glancing over as Geralt joined him.
“You’re the guy from last time, right?” he replied, propping his elbow on the counter. “The one who always sends me a rum and coke after I play through my set. I never got your name after you left me hanging on a compliment for my singing. Do you have that review for me?”
“Hm,” Geralt said, watching the bartender place a drink in front of Dandelion. He reached for it and took a sip. For a moment, Geralt was distracted by the movement of his throat, which just minutes before had been belting out lyrics.
“That’s hardly a review,” Dandelion sighed. “Come on, three words or less. I’m an aspiring artist here. How about this, you tell me your thoughts, I’ll tell you my name.”
“You have talent,” Geralt finally said, spurred on by getting what he wanted. He just wanted a name to go with his music, a real one, definitely not because he had been fantasizing about him since he started coming to the Passiflora once a week. Obviously.
“Well, that’s... better than nothing, I suppose.” Dandelion took another drink, and Geralt was distracted once again. “You know, as much as I appreciate the staring, people usually tell me their names at this point.”
“Geralt,” he answered immediately. He hadn’t taken his eyes off of Dandelion’s mouth.
“You always so direct, Geralt?”
“Yes.” The singer licked his lips and Geralt had to consciously relax his fist when it tightened.
Geralt looked back up to Dandelion’s face, which was soft with amusement, and what Geralt thought was severely misplaced nerves.
“You seem like you want more than just my name,” he said.
“It’s the truth,” Geralt said, shifting in his seat. “I just want your name.”
Dandelion’s lips pinched together, and he sighed again. “It’s Jaskier,” he said.
“Jaskier,” Geralt tested the name on his lips. “A nice name. Suits you.” He started standing up, but a hand on his arm stopped him.
“You can’t possibly be leaving now,” Jaskier said quickly. “Stay, talk with me.” It was near a beg, and Geralt weighed the two options in his head. “Or I could go with you,” Jaskier added, his voice dropping to a low, conspiratorial tone. Geralt gently took his hand off his arm, giving it a light squeeze.
“I’ll see you next week,” Geralt said, stepping away. “We’ll talk more then.”
“Son of a bitch,” Jaskier mumbled, sitting back down and running a hand through his hair. Geralt felt his mouth twitch up at the corner. How long, he wondered, could they play this game until one of them made a move?
Circling, colliding, circling each other again, like two stars along perpendicular paths, until one of them went supernova. Geralt had a good feeling about the next week.
