“I just don’t understand how the mug shot is there but nothing about that arrest is listed.” To Inika it seemed like an obvious flag to anyone who would want to audit the records that something was amiss. Even if the Yagers had the charges cleared there’d be a paper trail of lawyer bullshit all the way through.

“Well… they do have a couple things.” Levi admitted after a few moments of silent skimming,  “There is an assault on an officer here that was eventually dropped.” 

“Oh yeah, I... that definitely happened.” Like most things about that day, had she not been staying in his room that night maybe things would have gone a bit differently for both of them. “He.. he had his reasons.”

In the meantime life carried on. Levi had allowed her some time to collect herself but had made the prudent suggestion that perhaps a change of scene would do her some good. She’d always made a point to live far from Myshuno. She wanted to avoid letting her work flood into what personal life she managed to eke out between assignments. Oasis had been a sanctuary of the privacy she liked to keep for herself but now that all didn’t seem to matter. It was all a wash. 

“So, what do you think?!” The Boss always lit up at the sight of even the slightest bit of luxury, “Absolutely fantastic right?” 

Inika wasn’t exactly sure it was a fit for her though, “Seems like a bit much to me.” 

“You say that now, but just wait until you get used to it.” He replied with a sly grin. It wasn’t often that she got to see this side of him since they mostly met at the office where annoyances were in abundance. So for the moment anyway it seemed like it’d be wise to give in to his good humor. 

“You’re right Boss, it’s perfect.” She relented as genuinely as she could muster. The thought of having to clean such a large space still weighing heavily on her mind.

“Damn right I’m right, I mean what the fuck is not to like? Just look at this view.”

“So you ready for the rundown? Or do you want to settle in first?” And just like that Levi’s mood turned faster than fall weather off The Bay. 

“Ugh… just tell me.” Inika sighed as she tossed her bag aside. 

“There’s good news and there’s bad news and unfortunately they happen to be one and the same. Turns out your little blue boytoy is clean. Like unbelievably clean.” 

“I’m sorry that’s just not possible.” Inika tried to bury her defensive tone as her mind took her back to somewhat simpler times, “There has to be some record.” 

“Oh there’s a fucking record but it’s all delinquent shit.”  Hansen exclaimed in clear frustration, “Destruction of public property, trespassing… but nothing about that damn terrorism charge.” 

“But I was fucking there Levi, I was in the room when he was arrested.”

“Oh I know and I have other witnesses but according to the government, that shit never happened.”

“And naturally when you run,” The Boss had a bit of a chuckle to his tone. “You’re resisting.” 

“Honestly I believe he thought that if he could get me out of there, they’d leave me alone.” Inika explained further. She knew now of course his efforts had been in vain, just her being there evidently made her guilty of something. “He was the one they really wanted.” 

“Chivalrous motherfucker.” 

“Not really, he just hates any sort of injustice and if I took any of the blame for what he did I don’t think he’d be able to live with himself.”

“All that considered, this shit is shiny and when you add in his habits there’s only one of two things going on.” Levi’s eyes turned grim as he began, “First, he changed his ways. Decided he got a lucky break, cleaned up his shit, and the system went easy on him. Second and by far more likely based on the evidence: the government got him.” 

“There’s no way Levi,” Inika replied dismissively. She almost let out a full bodied laugh at the thought of that. Olin? A government man? “He can’t even take friendly advice with a hint of grace. That level of authority would chafe him to the core.” 

“You say that Nika but he blew up a fucking monument on a crowded University campus. The number of charges that go along with that should have put him away for a long time.”

“Excuse me... I think I need a little help finding something.” 

“Sure thing, just finishing up a special order for someone and I’ll be there in a second.”

“Listen sir.. I... I know this shit sounds bad but it really isn’t! Estra was low to no contact with her family for at least a couple years! It’s perfectly normal for her to run off, I’m sure she’ll...” 

“Turn up somewhere with my fucking idiot son?  Oh yes that would be fucking great. Minor member of the family indeed, that was one of the worst fucking options. Her dad is totally not the type to overreact and think he kidnapped her. Let’s not forget that little shit had almost five years of military training in boarding school before college and definitely could do that if he had a strong enough drive. Not saying he would... but... less than rational minds may jump to some conclusions.”

“Wait what no... I thought...” 

“You thought this was a seperate fucking thing? Oh no, I am positive this shit is no coincidence given the timing. That boy has the same sort of one track mind that has destroyed many a fool in our family before him. Always wanting what we can’t or fucking shouldn’t have, fuck you should have met my mother. Absolutely ruthless woman, you probably would have loved her. Terrible for my father but he always loved a fucking challenge.”

“Wait... you said four days ago?” 

“Roughly.. why?” 

“I had a visit from Yager men when I was still at home - they weren’t there for me... they were there for someone I was with. Someone she.. had a relationship with. Seems one of theirs went missing around then too.” 

“You had intel like this and you didn’t tell immediately?” 

“Didn’t seem important at the time. She’s just a minor member of the family.” 

“Any information about those assholes is important and how minor are we talking? One of Frankie’s? Or Leith’s air-headed youngest? She frankly seems like the type to lose her way in a crowd...” 

“She is Frey’s daughter.”
