I am back in Austin after my Financial Planner + Tree Planter in Residence at This Will Take Time in Point Arena, CA.
The Residency experience showed me that one person really can do anything, but can't do everything.
From January 01-31, 2018: I met with 8 people for financial planning presented to 3 high school classes on personal finance was featured in 2 newspaper articles planted 262 Redwood Trees
The goal was to help as many people with financial planning as possible and plant as many redwoods as I could.
In a town of about 400 I started to get a view of the individuals and families, and also the economics, demographics, health, and educational issues of area.
In a month I planted 262 redwood, every plantable Redwood available to me, and planted a large section of an entire ravine. Though often, while standing on the top of the hill, I could look out and see all the clear cut land and get glimpse of how much work there is to do.
How do we as individuals and as a society get better at thinking long-term?
How do we deal with the consequences today of short term thinking in the past?
How do build a team to take on challenges bigger than one person or one lifetime?
I am still processing the experience, though are we ever done processing our experiences? I am taking the lessons, as I find them, to apply to life and Money Positive.
