Liam is the only one who still believes in Da'an, who has to make a difficult decision. Most of his peers believe Da'an has no longer the strength he once possessed. Liam offers to help, and shoulder some the burden (blame). And while the task seems insurmountable, Liam is willing to try. Da'an has no real clue what to say, how to explain to Liam what is needed, how high the price is of Liam is willing to offer. Liam trusts him wholeheartedly, Da'an is grateful for this. Da'an is almost afraid to take his help. It would save his people, but damn Liam to become breeding stock, there would be no way back. Da'an is unable to put his horror over that possible outcome into words. Their feelings are complicated. Trust, almost broken, but not yet shattered. Affection, like mentor and student. Something almost like love, never put into words, still covered by politeness and formality. If he could, would Liam give everything he has? Maybe, maybe not. His freedom was always at stake. So far, Da'an has always been the one to guard his back, at least against the Taelons. Until he didn't anymore.
