Computer for my Moirail part 6
Since I’m behind… I’ll just post the rest lol.
Corsair 300R Mid tower case: A full featured case, plenty of cable routing, plenty of room, your choice of cooling options… 59 bucks? Absolutely.
And the video card… GTX 950 $129.00. We can’t complain at all, will run most games at mid to high settings @ 1080p which is our goal. I wouldn’t expect to get 60 fps in all cases. We can tweak the settings turn off AA, tessellation, ambient occlusion (all high demand settings), and we should be well on our way to a solid 45-60 fps.
Build should be happening soon ish, maybe next week or so.

The Power Supply... Don't skimp... Cyonic Power Supply AU-550/650! If there is one piece you never want to skimp on, it's your power supply. That doesn't mean you have to blow wads of cash getting a 1200watt power supply. Not all power supplies are created equal. Some can't handle the load, voltages fluctuate. 'Ripple' is a slight variation on voltage under load. That coupled with fluctuating voltages could wipe out your system. Cyonic is a company who rebrands Seasonic power supplies. I've always loved Seasonic power supplies. This is no exception. Providing rock solid power.
Computer for my Moirail part 4
Aaaaand the memory! GSkill Ripjaws 8gb DDR 4 3200 $60.00 Normally I would go Corsair here. I've ran GSkill before and I haven't had any issues. DDR 4 modules are cheap as chips right now. In certain scenarios where we are gated by our dual core, our quick memory will help make up some of that difference. It won't be a tremendous amount, but any amount helps when we are squeezing pennies. We could probably slow down the memory and add another 8 gb for a total of 16gb, but we felt that the workloads that were being applied wouldn't make full use of the 16gb. Might be an upgrade later however.
Computer for my Moirail part 3
Next part up is the motherboard. ASRock Z170 Pro4S ATX $83.00
This little guy is cheap and loaded for the price. Why a Z series for an i3? Good question, we can support faster memory and ASRock released a bios that we can overclock a non K chip we should be able to reach 4.4 ghz on this little guy. Faster memory will help us if our performance is gated by our processor, after all it is only a dual core at heart. It’s just simply too good for the price.
Computer for my Moirail part 2
Let’s see the parts!!! I’ll break it out over a few posts over the next few days.
Processor: Core i3 6100 3.7 ghz $130.00
This is a nice little processor for the price. This is a hyper threaded dual core that gives us 4 threads. It won’t shine a light to the Core i5 6500 or anything, but for the price we can’t really argue. We’re still okay for gaming here compared to an Amd counter part. The AMD Fx-8350 or the Fx-6300 would give us better ability to do some multitasking, however if we aren't running a multithreaded work load we won't get the most out of it. In games the core i3 is still doing extremely well against AMD's offering. This is a low power processor and it’s not going to put out a lot of heat. This will allow us to run the fans quiet!
Computer for my moirail
Hey Tumblr! First post of 2016, woohoo!! I was tasked over the last few days with coming up with an idea of a gaming computer under 600 bucks usd. Interesting challenge. There are a few goals for the project, 1) we want to use new parts, 2) 600 bucks after rebates etc, 3) Better graphics than a current console, 4) have enough horsepower to capture and record game play at 1080p, and 5) ability to upgrade later. By new parts I mean current generation, you won't see an Fx6300. Let it be known I love this processor, but not more than Intel's Skylake (6xxx series) . Normally I'd defer to Logical Increments for something like this, however they haven't quite updated yet. Overclocking is not a major concern, however as I take you through my decision-making process over the next few days you'll see we can overclock even non "k" Intel chips. I might make a separate post about Overclocking basics, however that might be out of the scope for Tumblr lol. I'll make a new post each day for the next several days, a different part for each day. Explaining the why behind the decision. I see many review sites post up "Go with this processor... Because... Reasons!!", and it really leaves the person reading thinking... "What?" Also as my moirail orders the parts we'll take pictures of the completed build, as this is the planning and research phase I just finished.
