*exhales* okay, good. because despite me knowing how considerate (thoughtful) you're treating your fics (whether long or short), I have to admit that this did fright me a bit. even if a child might have a vivid fantasy, I don't automatically think they're making _everything_ up.

taking your second (longer) paragraph into consideration, I think I could trust some instinctive theories I have about how this fic might unfold. that's... oddly... good to know. heavily emotion-driven which I'll be fine with but no sudden plot-twist aka jumpscares.

lol now I have a funny idea who could be the psychologist. but I'll (impatiently) wait and read it.

yes, that’s right! not everything from Yuusaku’s POV is some false, made-up horror fantasy, but since chapters rely solely on one POV at a time, you’ll mainly get the details from the specific character -- and that can make piecing together the mystery a bit more difficult. however, the focus isn’t on bringing justice to Kiyoshi; i really wanted to write a story about victims of abuse being taken care of, receiving treatment and kindness and love post-trauma. that, and Kusanagi isn’t going to break down the criminal details to Ryouken and Yuusaku. come time, he’ll probably have a talk with them about Bad Things (like saying no if a stranger asks you to come with them, what to do if someone touches you inappropriately, etc.), but that’ll come once the kids are out of the house more. for now, the main focus is on feeling safe in the new enviroment ^W^

i’m not sure how familiar you are with Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, but i’ve vaguely based certain “arcs” of this story on those needs (physiological, safety, love/belonging, esteem, & self-actualisation). while i would ascribe to the hierarchy part, and the arcs are sort of blending several of these concepts together and tied quite a bit with a more recent psychological concept called “human givens,” you can definitely see aspects of Maslow’s work in the fic ^W^ right now, the kids are getting their physiological and safety needs met first; neither of them are truly at a place to be accepting love/belonging, but they’re coming round to trusting Kusanagi as a safe person, and that’s the first step to feeling a sense of love and care <3

and yeah, no jump-scares. There might be some frightening imagery and some scenes of anxiety/panic, but none of the planned scenes I have come to mind as frightening horror. 

hm hm, we shall see next week who the special doctor is ~~

haha there are probably in canon zexal scholars studying the trend that is “IV’s Ego.” and they will never fully comprehend how successfully he created, produced, and marketed his personality to his fans

(but i’m sure around his family he’s quite the different character, much more polite and reserved, a bit of the needy middle child but still less egoistical and flashy than his media persona XD)

i feel this on a spiritual level because all of the kids who are 11 and younger in the anime club i run tell me how their first anime were dragon ball z, death note, sword art online, and black butler and i'm just like...........holy shit nothing has changed

yeah, i kinda thought that like a “new wave” of starter pack anime would appear with sword art online, free, yuri on ice, attack on titan - and on one hand, it sorta has, but then i remember meeting some new anime fans at a convention and she was naming off all the anime she’d watched and enjoyed and she goes “death note, ouran high school host club, soul eater, black butler ..” and i thought, wait ... that’s the same shows that were popular when i was starting out with anime

and i dunno what it  is, like of those three she named only black butler has an ongoing manga and new content, the others have completed mangas and animes. but honestly it’s really cool that like, all the series i would have watched as a teen (bc sadly i didn’t pick up any hype anime when i started and ended up watching interesting titles like oreimo [and i did not know that was sibling incest] or higurashi or mushishi) have remained for newer anime fans

(though reluctantly, i do admit wanting to encourage people to branch out, like pick up a seasonal anime once in a while, there is something for everyone each season)

Really a great episode even if many flame it because of this duel

on one hand, i can get where those flames are coming from bc ygo is largely based on duels and this episode seemed like the hype-up to a big match

but compared to other ygos, vrains has far fewer duels, and while significant, plot happens outside of matches too -- so not having the Soulburner vs. Revolver duel can be disappointing, but i think it’s not unlike Vrains to throw the show for a loop and have the big, climactic moment be when they give up the duel and actually speak to each other -- that dueling isn’t the only way for duelists to communicate, and that by Revolver choosing not to duel he was accepting Soulburner’s grief without the “I understand you” speech.

it wasn’t the sort of episode i expected either, but nonetheless i really liked it <3

omg bamboo blade is such a B-grade anime lskdfja;...it was one of the first ones i ever saw in anime club and i never finished it but i subjected my anime club kids to the first two dubbed episodes lol

it really is, and i thought people were just being harsh at it bc the sports anime genre is saturated with male-led series and so i thought “nah, this looks half-decent”

and it’s like ... half-passable at most. i’ve seen slice of life move faster than this dumb series. don’t worry, you wouldn’t miss much at all. it’s just ... there’s no plot. no character development. no sports. i can’t connect to anyone, and the one girl i really liked (Satorin) ended up being mentioned for like 12 episodes before she just randomly appeared. all that buildup for nothing.

to be fair, the sub is decent and i don’t mind sooome of the voices. but the dub? my ears sting, gosh i really can’t stand Tamaki’s English VA in most of the shows she does, and in a series where everyone else’s voices make my ears bleed too, her pitch really, really stands out >////<

Not going to lie, I was thinking of Rick Riordian as well when asking that XD Hephaestus as Takeru's dad was exactly what I was thinking as well and he would be the only one of his kids who doesn't know how to build stuff lol As for Ryoken, I see him having Athena as his mom (since he's like a child prodigy, sadly he still has Kogami as a dad), Spectre has Demeter as a mom, and Yusaku would have Nemesis (the goddess of revenge) as his mom.

oh good, then i was right on the ball! and i didn’t even think of mom’s, but yes yes yes i agree to all of this! Athena as Ryouken’s mom would play well into his strategist mind, and he still keeps his awful dad (sorry Ryouken). Spectre’s got hippie mom AND dad, this Yuusaku has Revenge Mom! it works so well!!

now if only we knew more about the other Lost Kids ~

aww, thank you!! well, spoilers are allowed, i thiiiiiiiink, so ~~ here’s a long spoiler for one of the prompts that i chose datastorm for <3

Yuusaku struggles to get his lips to move correctly, but they feel heavier than jelly and stick together like peanut butter. He wants to ask "But why someone like me?" and Yuusaku doesn't know if he says it or if Ryouken read his mind, but then he hears, as clear as day: "It's probably because I just like you."

"Probably?" Yuusaku's voice comes out as a squeak. "What's that mean?"

"I don't know," Ryouken says, once more with a teasing smirk and a shrug of his shoulders. "As I said before, I've never liked someone. I don't know what all these feelings and thoughts mean either, so I'm in the same boat as you. But if this isn't what being in love feels like ... than what is?"

"I -- I don't know." Yuusaku doesn't. There's a fluttery feeling in his stomach, and a dizzy feeling in his head -- is he in love too? Does love hurt and ache? Does it make you feel all weird inside? Is love supposed to feel good? Yuusaku doesn't want to have a stomach ache for the rest of his life. But then, come to think of it, he felt better last night when he lied on his bed and looked up through the skylight at the starry sky. And as he was laying there, he remembered kissing Ryouken and how good it felt.

That's right, it felt good to kiss Ryouken. As short as it was, I can recount the memory in such detail that it would take me an hour to explain.

"I don't know," Yuusaku repeats.

The desk creaks as Ryouken leans forward. "Shall we find out together, Fujiki?"

Yuusaku bites his lip.

"That is, if you're OK with it. I'm not going to force you to like me back. I won't force you into anything."

Slowly, Yuusaku meets Ryouken's eyes. They're a softer blue in the hazy, afternoon light, and the usually-sharp angles of Ryouken's face have been chiselled away by the sun to rounded curves. Yuusaku remembers those angles and curves brushing against his own cheeks when he kissed Ryouken. He remembers Ryouken's hands, and his eyes, and his nose, and even part of him that touched Yuusaku for that brief moment.

Yuusaku wants that feeling again.

"I ..."

"It's a yes or no question, Fujiki."

"Yes."

Ryouken closes the space between them. Yuusaku hears Ryouken murmur, "Can I kiss you once more?" but he leans up for the kiss before Ryouken can even finish the sentence, and he kisses him slow and steady in the empty classroom.

Thank you! Like I‘m about 8 years older than my brother and bc I’m an adult and he’s still a kid, I try to be a good role model and be as supportive as I can. And I’m still trying to be a good sister as I grew up being an only child and even now I still feel like I am (we’re half siblings bc we only have the same dad, we don’t even live together) but I know my close friend irl has a “rivalry” with his sister, but they’re close to the same age like a year or so apart

and see, my brother and i are a year and a half apart, so pretty close in age for siblings, and i really can’t think of any times where my brother and i were rivals. we always played video games as a team instead of against each other. we always wanted to be on the same team as each other. and even as we got older and developed different interests, we were never competitive or outright mean to each other. maybe it’s because i grew up in a stricter household. maybe it’s because, even though i was the older sibling, i never had to babysit my younger brother, and our ages/age difference were never that important (so there was never really a “she’s older so only she can do this/he’s younger so only he can do this” unless it had to do with seatbelt safety or something)

but yeah, i’m really stumped why all these people seem to think siblings hate each other and try to destroy each other’s lives. i’m sure some do, and it makes for Western sitcom drama. but really, sibling rivalry comes down to a lot of different specifics (age gap, roles/responsibilities/personalities and temperaments) so for anyone to outright claim that All Siblings Must Behave Like This just seems ... insensitive? naive? narrowminded?

like idk, make a post or something saying that you understand sibling rivalry more than sibling compassion or whatever, but i’m with you, i really don’t understand posts making sweeping remarks and claiming their personal experience as the Be All End All
