All the Silm questions because why the hell not.
I’ve already answered some so imma basically just fill in the ones I haven’t done :3
1. What’s your favourite Noldor?
3. What’s your favourite dwarf?
Idk, I have a special place in my heart for Narvi? His broship with Celebrimbor with their inside jokes and ‘friend’ puns warms my soul.
4. What’s your favourite Valar?
It has to be Namo. He just...doesn’t give a shit? At all?? I have a feeling even the other Valar are lowkey intimidated by him, and he actually knows more than Manwe about Eru’s plans for Arda. He’s the one with all the prophecies after all...and he’s just looking at Manwe like “it’s so cute how you think YOU’RE the one Eru talks to. lol”
5. What’s your favourite man of the First Age?
Beren- if only for his dad jokes @ Thingol
6. Would you have followed Fëanor?
Uhhmmm yES. He’s serving rebellion with a side dish of poor life choices, and I’m in.
8. What’s your favourite character of the book? (You CAN’T cheat like me, it must be JUST ONE)
Honestly, it’s Fëanor. I love my fiery trash son
9. Discuss Maeglin’s actions and motives.
Uhu. Here we go. Strap in.
Personally when it comes to Gondolin, I just don't think there's sufficient evidence to prove either of the two theories solidly- that he willingly gave up the city because it was the better option, or that he held onto the secret for as long as humanly possible and only gave it up after tortures unimaginable. That being said, I do regard this whole business with a great deal of suspicion. I have no huge love for Maeglin as a character- he had plenty of motive to give it up, and far less motive to keep it secret...so the first option does seem more likely. And I just can't get with that. Gondolin became his residence, a place where he was a respected figure. A few wary looks from Idril (seriously, can we get over blaming this woman already when she's literally the one who did absolutely nothing wrong) really don't justify its betrayal. Very few things justify the betrayal of a city full of people, and that certainly isn't one of them. Besides, if it truly was a case of being tortured into it, why didn't he warn anyone of what was coming? He certainly had the chance.
In conclusion, hella unconvinced of this guy’s blamelessness.
10. Which King of Númenor is your favourite?
Why not Queen? Tar-Ancalimë, my salty lesbian.
12. Doriath or Nargothrond?
15. Would you trust Ossë?
Never trust anything that lives in the ocean.
16. What do you think of Fingolfin going to attack Melkor?
*melkor voice* “One time, he stabbed me in the foot. IT WAS AWESOME.”
18. What do you think Eru meant by “And thou, Melkor, shalt see that no theme may be played that hath not its uttermost source in me, nor can any alter the music in my despite. For he that attempteth this shall prove but mine instrument in the devising of things more wonderful, which he himself hath not imagined.”?
“It is by the laws of nature impossible to rebel against me so sit down son.”
19. Who do you think had the worse destiny: Húrin or Túrin?
Túrin. When your misfortunes turn you into a walking meme, you know it’s bad.
20. If you could be a character from the book which one would you choose?
I’m honestly trying to think of who doesn’t die and coming up blank....I’d say Elrond, but his life isn’t altogether happy. Maybe I’d be Glorfindel. I could die a heroic death and then return to dazzle everyone with my fabulous hair.
21. What do you think of Melkor considering all since the song?
I’m genuinely very curious about him, I kinda want to sit him down and construct a full psychological profile. He probably experiences the widest range of emotion of any of the Valar, but mostly those emotions are negative- fear, hatred, anger, a thirst for destruction. It would be very interesting to dig deeper and find out why.
26. Imagine Sauron falls in love with you but you love Melkor who loves no one (seriously that little shit). What do you do?
Marry Sau sau. Put that ring on it
27. What do you think it was the most evil deed of Melkor?
28. Would you prefer to fight against Gothmog (the balrog of course) or Glaurung?
Hmmmm Gothmog. Glaurung would just hypnotise me into becoming a stripper
29. If you were an elf in Midlle-earth after the War of Wrath would you sail immediately to Valinor or wait a little more in Middle-earth?
I’d probably sail. I’ve had enough of this bullshit and want some peace and quiet
30. What do you think of the fact that Tolkien created in 360-ish pages something so perfect and complex?
I thank him at my altar every day
