I’m excited to say that it finally happened! Yup thats right, it happened. I finally had a banh mi from Minh Tan Bakery in Inala! Probably one of the greatest days of my life. Ok, so I’m exaggerating but it was a seriously awesome adventure. A friend and I met at the Inala Plaza on Saturday afternoon all excited to find this banh mi. As soon as we stepped into complex it was like being back in South East Asia! There were little restaurants everywhere and weird little markets stalls. It even smelt a bit funky! After wondering around trying to find it (every time we saw a Minh or Tan we thought we had found it. Turns out they are pretty common words in Vietnamese) we finally located it the actual plaza. I swear I nearly burst with excitement especially when I saw that they were only $4.50. We ordered our banh mi’s and waited for about 5 minutes before they were ready. I think I ordered the chicken banh mi but in all honesty I was a little too excited so my memory is a little hazy. We ate our sandwiches outside in the sunny courtyard which really added to the whole experience. While we ate we checked out the court yard we were chilling in and noticed a group of older Asian men playing what looked like Mahjong and getting rather animated about it. We also saw little kids with no shoes and men drinking tea and chain smoking. I felt like I’d been transported back to Asia, I loved it! The banh mi itself was pretty average and we gave it a 5/10. There seemed to be too much bread and my friend even said it was so crusty that it cut the top of his mouth (I’m pretty sure he was just eating it wrong, if that's even possible, because my mouth was fine). But, having said that, the whole atmosphere really enhanced the experience and took it up to a 8/10. Another life enhancing BMH experience accomplished.
