Don’t be so quick to cut off a blessing of experiencing a person in who they’ve become vs who you thought them to be. People change- grow.

God gives them back in a different frame, and could end up being the very root to the change you need. God truly does give you the people you need when you need them.

Learn to deal in mess as soon as it arises. Learn to forgive and move forward.

Memory Lane

I took a trip down memory lane. Opened a box that I swore I forgot. But how can you forget when these memories keep flooding in. I barely float above the waters as each wave grows larger encompassing me. It was just a crack, but it was enough for them to make me their victim once again. I take a breath. For a moment I am reminded of home soon to be replaced by the sudden suffocation. I struggle to breathe. I fight for release. The haunting memories are closing in. As I am drowning in a sea of tears, I am reminded of why I closed this box. I search for the key, only to realize that I never had one. Another thing that I was not allowed to have. I grow courage and strength to fight these waves. Against my feelings of weakness, I brush against the light of the service illuminating me. I took a trip down memory lane but I ended up on the other side clutching a key. In the distance I hear the muffled sounds of a time once ago slowly fading into the darkness.

This job is a privilege

This past week was my last week on wards as an intern. I was trudging through it, complaining about how tired I was, about all of the grunt work that had to be done, and how lazy our medical student was... And then... A teen presented with sudden onset altered mental status that we couldn't explain. I sat with his mom while she cried, because she was so worried about her boy, and told her that we didn't know what was wrong with him, but we were going to do everything we could to keep her son safe. As much as it sometime annoys me, I need to always remember that this job is a privilege. Parents are entrusting their children to our team when they can no longer take care of their kids themselves, and I do our families a disservice when I lose sight of that.
