BASSETT, Va. — Bassett Furniture Inds. reported a 7% increase in sales and a 30% increase in consolidated operating income during the second quarter ended May 27, according to financial results released Thursday. The company reported overall sales of $114.1 million, up from $106.7 million in the second quarter of last year. Meanwhile, operating income rose to $7.6 million, up from $5.9 million last year. The second quarter figure represented 6.7% of sales, compared with 5.5% of sales during last year’s second quarter. Company-owned store sales totaled $67.1 million for the second quarter, up 8.4% from $61.9 million last year, which includes a comparable store sales increase of 6.3% compared with the prior year quarter. Comparable store operating income was $2.7 million, or 4.2% of sales for the second quarter, compared with $1.3 million, or 2.1% of sales last year.
