It's not like he hated snow, Rian just didn't particularly care for it. It looked quite nice all sparkly when the sunbeams fell upon it, but it was also cold and wet and turned into ugly grey goo far too quickly for his liking.
Back when he was a kid, things had been different, quite the opposite really. As soon as Halloween had passed, little Rian would sit by the window waiting for the first snowflakes to fall down from heaven and as soon as the ground was dusted in a light blanket of white, he was up on his feet and out the door before his mom could even think about scolding him for not wearing his mittens.
Back then the snow was magical.
It hadn't been like that in a long time, that was until she came around and changed everything.
The way her eyes lit up whenever the weather forecast as much as mentioned the possibility of snowfall. How excited she'd get every time she'd wake up to a snow covered morning. How she'd laugh louder and smile wider and practically glow, just because the snow never lost it's magic for her. All those things made Rian feel weirdly nostalgic.
" Snowflakes are like kisses from heaven " she'd say and twirl around as the white flakes landed on her hair and her nose.
He'd shake his head and laugh at her. It was silly but he loved it. He loved her.
" That's so cheesy. "
" But it's true. " she replied and let herself fall backwards into the cold white blanket that covered the ground. " Man, I love the snow. "
And as he watched her making a snow angel, smiling ear to ear, filled with nothing but joy and content as the flakes fell onto her face and melted on the warm skin of her flushed cheeks, Rian thought that maybe he loved it too.
