A Certain Fandom Faction: Claim that an endgame pairing, between two characters whose compatibility was long since well-established, was somehow devoid of chemistry (while themselves having significant overlap with supporters of a gratingly incompatible pairing). Same Fandom Faction: Claim that the endgame pairing, which had more development than any pairing that wasn’t established prior to the beginning of the story, somehow came out of nowhere (while themselves having significant overlap with supporters of a “love at first sight” pairing). Same Fandom Faction: Deny the existence of bigots in their midst, then look the other way when the bigots openly announce themselves. Same Fandom Faction: Declare the pairing “disgusting” and comparable to abuse, and claim that it ruined the franchise. Get indignant if anyone side-eyes that. Same Fandom Faction: Frame the worst of the worst behavior from supporters of the endgame pairing as a condemnation of the pairing itself. Get indignant whenever someone points out the worst of the worst behavior from their own. Same Fandom Faction: Call everyone who disagrees with them “sheep.” Same Fandom Faction: “Why are they so hateful?”
Remember how the sort of fans who unironically use the word “Tumblrina” completely missed the point, gloated about missing the point, and cried “strawman” when called on it?
I should hope y’all remember it; this did, after all, occur within the past few hours.
Unsurprisingly, the people who don’t take fandom reactionaries’ word on a pairing with half the series worth of development supposedly being “forced” and “rushed” can still recognize a genuinely forced and rushed pairing when we see one. To say nothing of recognizing projection bias and double standards when we see those.
But by all means, continue to strip the word “hypocrisy” of what meaning it still possesses; it really gives weight to your argument. Not.
Holy shit, the same dipshit who was calling established sociological concepts “Tumblrisms” just used “triggering” as a punchline with no joke attached. I could not fabricate self-awareness that far into the negatives.
Really tempted to say “speaking of Tumblrisms...” or something along those lines. But it ain’t worth it.
Seriously: why are the most ridiculous batshippers just about always also the fondest of projection bias and wounded-gazelle gambits?
Reblogging anti-harassment posts: To be commended. Reblogging "anti-harassment” posts from actual harassers, or at least people with massive double standards concerning what constitutes harassment: So...is the irony lost on you, or what?
