There’s something so good about Zoey taking up Bill’s mantle in such a bitter and tragic way
Zoey is the youngest, she makes horror movie and video game references in the middle of fighting, she skipped studying a lot but undoubtedly is street smart
When everything took a turn for the worst she was forced to watch her mother die and to kill her father, she took his pistol and was able to hold out in her own just fine
Bill meanwhile is the oldest, and literally in a hospital gown in the middle of surgery fought off the infected and crawled his way back to his home to get weapons
Despite his gruff exterior Bill seems to be the first to accept that these people are his family now, making references to being willing to kill any other families if it meant keeping his safe. Anyone else did not matter.
Meanwhile Zoey still wanted to hold out hope and bring people in and help them out. It isn’t until after Bill’s death that she shifts drastically in her view and realizes she does not to risk losing anyone else, not again.
I love that there wasn’t a moment of hesitation before Louis and Francis understood that Zoey was their leader now.
Louis is smart, but he’s book smart. His Japanese and two degrees dont get him too far in the zombie apocalypse but is helpful in random situations
Francis is strong, but he’s reckless strong. If the plan was up to him they would’ve been dead several towns ago due to his recklessness
Neither of them fight or argue they just nod and ask Zoey what their plan is now as the grieve Bill
But Zoey still keeps her want and her love, even when Louis is severely injured and can’t even stand due to his leg wound she helps keep him together
And when they part with the l4d2 crew she wonders if they should’ve brought them briefly or at least warned them about the militaries true intentions but ultimately decides that she can’t risk it and to carve their home on that island like bill wanted
