Link in botw got his scars from guardians in canon, and those would be like burn scars. Burns can permanently damage nerves if they're bad enough. I noticed that in botw whenever something happens where any if the Links in prior games would be screaming he just kinda grunts and it sounds more surprised than pained.

My point is: what if Link can't feel pain in botw because his nerves are so damaged.
