What we saw yesterday
As millions were riveted in front of their tv, tablets or computers to watch the Ford and Kavanaugh testimonies it was one thing for sure all were interested in hearing from them both. We saw all of those who were allowed in the room coming in and taking their respective seats(or corners) waiting for the first witness Dr. Ford to arrive and arrive she did. With a timid and respectful tone she began down the road of remembering and telling the entire world what happen to her in 1982. She spoke of the fear she felt as she was pushed into a room with two men who she described as Kavanaugh and his friend Mark Judge. As she recounted the aggressive and humiliating attack you could feel her anxiety and her pain and the world especially women felt it with her.
Dr. Ford had moments of tears but continued to show her strength by allowing herself to be questioned and judged in front of the world, never did she lash out or waver from her stance. This is what strength looks like and that is what we saw in Dr. Ford yesterday. What we also saw yesterday was how the Republican men did not have that strength or courage to question her one on one but instead hid behind the skirt of Arizona prosecutor Rachel Mitchell. Why did they feel that they could not have enough humanness to treat this woman as a human being without attacking her? When you don’t even trust yourself what does that say about you? After the four hour long testimony and questioning of Dr. Ford there was a recess and women everywhere even though you were not in that room gave each other a virtual and nationwide hug for her courage to stand up and speak up for those who have lived and held their own secrets of assault and abuse in silence. What you saw yesterday was empowerment of women everywhere! The recess is over and now it is time for Kavanaugh to have his seat at the testimony table. He enters with his wife and then goes to the table and seemingly is worried about where the name plate is positioned and adjusts it and something else on the table. While Dr. Ford spent less than 5 mins with her intro he spent forty(40) mins giving his diatribe of history from childhood to now in a very unnecessarily loud manner. Although many in the room were of the elderly age, they all seem to have their hearing intact so the need for the loud voice was unnecessary. Then the opening questioning started with Dianne Feinstein and he immediately became combative and as she continued to attempt to get him to answer he became enraged and very hostile! So is this a person who we want to make important decisions with this type of temperament? What we saw yesterday was the rage of an entitled white man who feels how dare anyone put him up for questioning and damn you all! The prosecutor that the GOP hired evidently was not doing what they expected her to do or it was just a sham for Dr. Ford but after one question to Kavanaugh she was no longer a factor in doing the questioning and Lindsey Graham following the crazed enragement of Kavanaugh went into a tirade of yelling and pointing fingers at the Democratic side! So was that four hours of not questioning Dr. Ford too much for them to handle and they exploded on the Democrats? Well they are the ones who thought they were outsmarting the process by hiring Mitchell. After Republican after Republican spouting out the rhetoric that Kavanaugh started the hearing with in regards to the conspiracy that they were after him for political reasons and it was an awful attack on him they showed their true colors and what we saw yesterday is that the bullies could not stand feeling bullied as is usually the case with bullies.
The Republicans didn’t have this outcry when it was brought up about Russia interfering with the election, they did not have this outcry. Oh but they had a huge outcry of “lock her up” about the Hillary emails. They did not have the outcry when time after time President Obama was accused of not being born in the USA but rather they fueled it. They want to be outraged because one Democratic senator made a statement of they would block Kavanaugh’s confirmation but where was the outrage when some on their party made the statement regarding President Obama “ we will do everything in our power to make him a one term president.” No outrage or yelling from them did we hear? What we saw yesterday is the good old boys were in a corner and did not know how to handle it and so they started screaming like juveniles. But as is said from Shakespeare “ The lady doth protest too much” well let’s replace that with the “men doth protest too much.”
