Okay a question. If Vivian is that dragon- bird hybrid from the Dungeon Meshi, who would the other partners be matched with in the dungeon meshi cast? (If that makes sense)

of course, the way the au works isnt nessesarily a "replacement" au (where certain members assume a role as the story of another media is transported to the one in question); but i did write this down because i thought it would help my thoughts roll around clearer
(some are greyed out because there was no one i thought thatd fit them/i planned to create a character that would fit)
unfortunately it didint really help my thought process in the end and i ended up scrapping the idea of referencing "who replaces who" at all, since it would just make things complicated and i didint want to nessesarily make this a replacement au in the first place anyway. but these notes exist! so here they are

ok lemme just start this off by saying i know i said i wouldnt rlly be active in posting stuff for awhile but. i lied oops

you are sort of right yes!!! with the whole imprisonment thing! let me give a bit more backstory first so things make sense :
since the circus bunch lives in hyrule while the whole ganondorf apocalypse thing is happening, pipimi is sort of their mini savior! since the link of this world is too far away to help them and too busy in the main areas of hyrule.
they r far enough away from the inner sections of hyrule to where they arent entirely affected by the main stuff everyone else is (dangerous monsters, plague spread, malice growth) but they arent immune from it. the malice (and malice in this au grows like crystals, large fleshy red crystals that bleed!) would bleed and seep into the waterways and possibly run down rivers their way, infecting their water.
so its sort of like The Plague (the fossils plague to be exact, a plague created by ganondorf that slowly turns the host into a stone statue) but worse, like a parasitic bug in ur brain almost!
halimaw got infected by the malice-water and started becoming brash and killing coworkers and visitors, and demanded to anyone he could not immediately kill that they bring him to ganondorf so he can 'serve his leader'. they could Not let this guy roam free of course. hes ruining business! so sirko compromised with him, occasionally feeding him a random visitor to the circus so that he stays in the basement. halimaw's agreement to this compromise allowed them to lock him on the basement for good, unbeknownst to him.
so thats the majority of how halimaw got thrown into the basement ! he doesnt stay there forever of course, and he does get justice, but not without sacrifice! :3
the main plotline (the mission to kill ganondorf) goes on long enough to where others in the circus start to become sick, showing early signs of the infection that halimaw currently inhibits.
this is quite literally right before vahlu (this au's link) slays ganondorf though, so when pipimi finally finds out its the water supply thats making everyone crazy and ill, everyone praises her for finding the problem and being the one to help vanquish it ; when in reality, the malice just sort of. dissipated because ganondorf was no longer living.
(and yes, i did add that little last part for yuri purposes .. holiday gets sick and pipimi blames herself .. after all, everything was just fine before she arrived. whys suddenly everything going wrong? :] )

honestly i did not think about it like that at first but. it would be suuuper funny and also Very antagonist of him if he could! well. in a sense to where hes more powerful than them of course, it would be mighty hilarious considering dark plants are literally just below krill in the sky ecosystem ( i like to think it goes something along the lines of krill > plants > crabs > sludge )
"take over" might not be the best phrasing for it but he definitely has influence! can force them to do things and go away, stuff like that. but he cant control them and their minds nessesarily. could probably destroy them too butttt i like the idea that krill are/used to be others that failed under caine, so of course he doesnt want to hurt them :)
truly just a "whoopsie daisy! skedaddle, will ya?" kinda moment
