Pokémon’s Misty, Jessie VA Rachael Lillis Is Battling Cancer, Has GoFundMe Page

News - A Gofundme campaign has started for voice actress Rachael Lillis, who fans might know as the original voices for Pokemon's Misty and Jessie, as well as the dub voice of Utena Tenjou from Revolutionary Girl Utena. Lillis is currently battling the nasty side effects of cancer, and has had to check into a nursing home for care. If Lillis' work has ever brought you joy, please consider contributing a few bucks, or pass the link along to others to help get the word out!

Norm is a cool guy, I love his videos and his video personality, which is both chill and excited by everything. But this video about rural Japan dying- but more importantly, about people working to bring back rural life- really gave me some thinky thoughts, so I thought I'd rec the video and write a little about what it made me think and feel.

So I watched this TED talk called, Do we love our children? In it, a Gen X man tells a room of American Boomers that they are choosing to keep wealth and prosperity from young people- their own children and grandchildren, in many cases. We have an enormous issue in America with older generations basically... Pulling the ladder up behind them, while also blaming young people for the state of things today.

So when I saw this video about rural areas being abandoned en masse in Japan (apparently there are over 8 million abandoned homes in Japanese rural areas), I guess I was ready to see more of the same. Ie, older people saying, what can we do? Young people don't want to live here.

Instead, the video featured several adults (middle age, I am assuming? I'm not good at judging that) working together to entice young people and family aged people to live in rural Japan. One man did that by bringing back a summer festival that was dead for 30 years. He and other volunteers explained that the memories we make in childhood can tie us to the area in which we grew up. So, if they want young people to come back and settle down and start families and businesses here, they need to help parents give interesting and fun formative memories to their children. Basically, if we want young people to help us thrive, we must make this a good place ourselves.

Another man turned an abandoned school into a hotel and popular brewery, while more volunteers cleaned a local beach, which then became a tourist attraction drawing millions in tourism revenue to the town. Another woman made businesses that younger people would enjoy, like nightclubs, even though it was difficult at first with next to no clientele.

There were a few people over 80 who said, "What can we do now, at this age?" (and like... yeah, fair). But the middle age and younger adults are working so hard to extend a hand to the younger generations.

Idk man I think I needed to see this. Thanks, Norm, you're a gem. And thanks to all the cool people in Japan reaching out to younger people like this.

Macoto Takahashi, Shojo Manga Artist & Trailblazer, Dies at 90

One of the most renowned artists in the manga history, Macoto Takahashi, known for his contributions in Shojo manga dies at the age of 90.

Some sad news to share - Prolific shoujo manga artist & illustrator Macoto Takahashi has passed away at the age of 90 due to cancer. While he made several shoujo manga in the late 1950s & 60s, he soon decided to focus on illustration work, as he realized it was difficult for him to write stories for girls as a man. His highly detailed, fairy tale inspired & ultra-feminine style quickly became very influential to other shoujo artists at the time, helping further popularize trends that we now associate with classic shoujo manga style today. His work gained notice again in the 90s & 2000s when he started doing fashion illustrations for Lolita brands and magazine covers.

Rest in peace, Takahashi-sensei. You will be missed, and your beautiful art will continue to inspire!

News - If you live in the US, you can now watch all 200 episodes of the original 90s Sailor Moon anime on Viz Media’s Youtube channel for free! Viz also added all of the Inuyasha TV series and movies, as well as more recent shows like Death Note and Hunter x Hunter.

News - A new visual for the Magic Knight Rayearth reboot anime has been released! This new anime was announced last year to celebrate the franchise's 30th anniversary. According to their official website, it will be broadcast on TV Asahi in Japan starting in 2026. No cast or staff has been announced yet, but I'll keep y'all updated when more info is released!

A new pilot for a sequel to Tenchi Universe titled Tenchi Galaxy is now up for crowd funding on Kickstarter!

Tenchi Galaxy Anime Pilot

The anime pilot for the spiritual sequel to the Tenchi Muyo! TV series.

Organized by Armiger Entertainment, the company that successfully Kickstarted a limited reprint of the American Tenchi comics last year, the pilot will include a return by almost the entire original English dub cast AND Japanese director Hiroshi Negishi. If the pilot gets funded & made, it will be used as a pitch, in the hopes a full TV series can be eventually made. Add-ons include things like stickers, patches, posters, and even the pilot on VHS! Head's up -- The official English release of Stop!! Hibari-kun vol 1 is now up for pre-order at publisher Peow Studio's webstore here! Release is set for "mid November 2025", and they're offering a pre-order gift of a special postcard while supplies last. The book will include both a dust-jacket and an obi, similar to Japanese manga releases.
