@lioneshyde asked : [ attention ] vaike ofc ( or [ run ] . or a mix)
dusk falls upon the victors of the battle against risen spawn. but … naturally, danger still lurks ‘round every corner, unbeknownst to the ‘ vanquishers of evil. ’ even now during the shepherds’ time of triumph, death would return just as swiftly as it left their presence. soldiers’ naiveté would forever vex yuri, but he could do nothing while in his position. he was simply paid to observe. not protect. and yet … there is something in that benumbed heart of his that beat so recklessly that forced him to involve himself in such matters. the life and death of one particular soldier was now held in the palm of his hand. perhaps … in hindsight, simply stating the dangers he faced would have been enough ----- but yuri knew vaike’s speed would never allow him to prevent any form of injury. so, yuri takes advantage of his own quicker reactions.
venom that spat taunts would prove to be useful, even if provocation came with a price. rousing a beast from its ivory cage, waking the restless challenger that resides within the depths of the other’s chest, the consequences of his actions could be far more dangerous than the mage. however ... such recklessness was the only way to avoid needless bloodshed. vaike’s pride would never allow yuri to rescue him ... willingly. so when yuri sees the mage in the distance, rising to their heels, summoning the strength to defeat their foes, he devises a plan within seconds.
first, they collide, chest to chest. the closer, the better. now that he had access to all vulnerable points, yuri’s voice shifts into something hushed; something sultry, tempting. taunts promise a reaction; for the beast could never deny a bite. as he leans in further, peripheral visions catches the sight of the same mage conjuring sparks at their fingertips, lightning materializing before his very eyes.
second, in a swift movement, his arm swung ‘round the other’s neck. face daringly close to that of a brute. lips teasing the other with a signature impish grin that spoke volumes. gaining the other’s full, undivided attention ---- the act of forcing the other to solely focus on his own face ---- was not entirely difficult. effervescent charm bloomed upon soft cheeks in a light dusting of roseate, garnering ever last bit of attention he could hope for. ❝ well, well. so strong, aren’t we? i wonder what else that strength of yours is good for? ❞ a stalwart supporter of his own praise, vaike fed into yuri’s words. as expected. then, while on a high from the praise, yuri would swing into his arms for a kiss. but there was no kiss, only yuri whipping the other round just enough so that his own back was now facing towards the mage in the trees. it was vaike’s attention he sought. and he received.
in response for his daring flirtatious manner, there’s a rather strong tug at lilac tresses, something insistent that stung his scalp. callous fingers run through each strand, and he can feel their every move. however, yuri had focused his mind is elsewhere, fixated on the location of the mage he memorized seconds prior before they spun around. the thunder roaring above them gave warning to the lightning that was about to strike. immediately, his hand shot up behind him. his own magic summoned quickly at his finger tips, wind redirecting the bolt of lightning aimed at vaike. manipulator of nature, he never thought his magic would be used in such a way. the lightning strikes only once, and it strikes a different target. the summoner itself.
after the decimation of the surrounding greenery, head whips ‘round to see the finished product of his scheme. his smile daringly widens further, stretching from ear to ear, contrasting with the sheer surprise on vaike’s features. while still in his arm, yuri pats the other’s shoulders, offers some form of reassurance. soon thereafter, he retracts from the other’s embrace. he settles himself a safe distance away, wearing that same smile. ❝ oh, that? that was nothing. you’re welcome. ❞
