“Oh my god, you actually think I give a fuck? Really? After what you put him through, you have the audacity to call me?” It was laughable, really, but Lissa knew he wasn’t going to buy her bullshit show. She had always had a soft spot for Zayde, even after how things had ended between him and her brother. She wouldn’t have answered the phone otherwise.

“Look, we’re not even in that state anymore, Zayde. We’re in some backwoods, middle of fuck all, ghost town bar in Nevada. So, really, I don’t know what you expect me to do.”

Devin had gone on a food run, needing to get whatever it was he ate after playing blood donor to her. Talyse was supposed to be over soon and she could only guess he figured Zayde would be asleep a little while longer. He had been doing a shitty job of hiding the fact that boy was even there. 

She wasn’t supposed to be out of bed, but Lissa was tired of hearing them argue and the stench of despair and depression wasn’t easy to deal with in her current state either.

“What in the actual fuck is wrong with you?” she growled from the doorway, blocking his only viable escape as she glared at him. There was no way she was going to be delicate about any of this, but he should have already known how blunt she was.
