“I- Of course, Lestrange,” Amelia accepted with a strained smile. Her shoulders were tensing up already, and she forced her father’s words to the back of her mind.
Although she had never known either Lestrange in school - or Rodolphus’s wife Bellatrix, for that matter - her father had done nothing short of over-educating his children on the Dark Arts and their dangers. Among the most dangerous things (aside from the desire to attempt them) were the practitioners, one of which was now leading her out onto the dance floor. Well, according to her father, at least. Dark Magic was passed down in families, her father had said, and if one or both of the parents practiced, the children likely did as well. Oh, the stories Eugene Bones had to tell about the deceased Lestrange.
Right now, however, alarms weren’t going off in her head because of the man she had just accepted a dance with. Amelia could feel the weight of her father’s gaze on her back as she and Rodolphus got in position to dance, and a quick peripheral check confirmed her suspicions. It wasn’t like she could say no; they were co-workers and she cared about her image in the workplace. From the looks of it, Rodolphus did, too. However, her second concern was still not the Obliviator before her, even as she leaned forward to speak to him in a low tone before the music could overcome the lull that had passed for dancers to move on or off of the dance floor.
“Your wife doesn’t mind?” Amelia asked, doing her best to channel Fabian’s light-hearted way of handling things. Just the thought made it easier to smile more naturally, despite her concerns. “My mother cuts in every time my father tries to dance with any of his co-workers.”
The enchanted orchestra’s music brought a burst of life to the witches and wizards around them, and Amelia remarkably didn’t hesitate as they started to dance. Dark wizard or not, Rodolphus made her nervous. She swore she saw the sparkle of amusement in his eye - like he knew - but they were in motion, and there was no way of telling for sure. That would be just her luck.
