“this isn’t what i wanted.”
Ares was seeing red. They felt like Agatha was only telling them what they wanted to hear and not the truth. She had lied about caring for them after all. That was how it felt and that was what they believed. How could Ares trust someone who had said they cared for them and then left them in the arms of the monster they all feared? Ares’ anger was vibrant and clear in their surprisingly calm, low voice. A deadly anger.
“This isn’t what you wanted?!” They uttered, jaw clenched and face hard, “Oh right. You didn’t want to leave me. Or you didn’t want me to still be alive? To have survived? Well you did and I did. You left me- Abandoned me and let me continue to get tortured, continue to be Cosima’s play toy- Her only play toy. You took Astoria from me! You took everything from me!” Their hands trembled with energy, their lips mouthing numbers - ten, nine, eight. They didn’t want to harm her. No matter how much she had hurt them, Ares couldn’t hurt her like she had them.
“You may not have wanted this, Agatha. But you got it. You’re Cosima’s special child. You’re the one everyone wants, the one everyone loves- the one everyone cares for. But you forgot about me. You forgot about little Ares, trapped in that horrible cramped cell. You forgot about me and no one cared. You didn’t even care!” Their eyes were watering. “Everyone forgot about me! They only cared about you. The fucking chosen one. What makes you so special? I was the one who survived! I was the one who took everything in silence- who did everything right! So why were you the special one? Why did they choose you?” And that was when a tear cascaded down their cheek and they couldn’t control the vibrations of their hands, the tremors in their body. Ares collapsed onto their knees, words barely a whisper, “Why did they choose you?”
