Hope everyone had a great First Day of the Lunar New Year! This is a closeup of a family tradition, the arh-kueh, with peeled mung bean filling stir-fried with pepper. It’s best eaten with 卤汁, sauce from braising duck or pork. You can’t buy it anywhere in Singapore anymore - we gave up looking 5 years ago after the grandma that we used to buy it from retired and now make our own. I’ve also made the Bottomless Pit’s family get into making and eating it too! I belatedly realized that I didn’t take any pictures of food today... was too busy chasing after the Little Bottomless Pit. I’ll do my best not to forget tomorrow! (We have 15 days of LNY/CNY... ha, take that, Christmas.) ++++++ #teochewkueh #arhkueh #tradition #happycny #happylny #lunarnewyear2019 #chinesenewyear2019 #bottomlesspit #littlebottomlesspit #traditionalfood #homemadefood #foodanthropology #foodanthropologist https://www.instagram.com/p/BtgIbbrAI8e/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1ktmpvdk7333e
