The day started out rather normal for them. He was rambling rather excitedly about a place he wanted to take her. The Doctor, however, kept glancing at her in a rather peculiar way. “It’s brilliant! You won’t want to leave!” He was describing an entire planet that was a water park. A smallish planet. He talked it up even more than usual.
Once they’d arrived with even more of a bumpy ride, he found himself laughing. He glanced at her again, staring a long moment. “Rose Tyler. So many places I want to take you.” He’d promised, hadn’t he? He wouldn’t leave her behind. Not like the others. So many ways that statement could really be taken.
He walked over and took her hand. Everything was as it should be. Except that he had nearly lost her too many times. He had realized just how much she tried to humanize him. She even fancied him, he could tell. They weren’t very subtle about it now. The Time Lord and the human. She never really guessed just how different they were. Just how different he was. How broken. Oh, he could put on a smile with the best of them. He was just so tired of it all now. A storm was coming. That was him.
He pulled the door open and hauled her towards the edge of the doors. There was no planet. There wasn’t even light. A giant mass of darkness loomed in the distance. The TARDIS was shaking and shuddering, trying to maintain her position.
"The lost girl so far from home." He recalled what had been said to her on a planet beneath a very similar universal phenomenon. His hand tightened around hers, he reaching up to plant a hand right in the center of her back.
Was he really going to push her?
