Your gifset for Jurassic park is STUNNING. Would you mind sharing how you made them? Specically how you made the backgrounds different colours without altering the faces of the characters (like in the Sarah ones in your set). Do you use Selective Colour? I've tried using it but it always alters the face and skin.
so the first way for to do this for scenes with people is to try and use scenes that have some sort of solid-coloured background because it makes it so much easier. in this tutorial i’ll let u know how to make these 3 gifs:
so the first gif we have is the sarah green gif which looks like this
once i’ve sharpened, cropped, etc. i’ll increase the brightness, play with the levels and the contrast which gives us this
as you can see the background is pretty much a solid green, so i played with the colour balance to increase the green and the pinkish tint on her skin. it’s only a slight increase but it’ll make working with selective colours easier, so it gives us this:
that’s when i start playing with selective colour. at first i only fiddle with the green and increase the black a little so it’s more solid which gives us this
the green still isn’t as vibrant so i played with the selective colour again and only played with the green again
as you can see it looks a little more vibrant now, but it still doesn’t match the green that i’m going for. then i play with hue/saturation, obviously i dont want the whole thing changed so i change it from master to green so it’ll only manipulate some of the greens which looks like this
finally once i’m happy with the overall green colour, i increase the vibrancy of it all until it gives us this:
so if the background is a completely different colour and you want to change it to something else this is the process that i use. once i’ve played with the brightness and layers it gives me something like this
and you can tell here that the dominant colour in the background is green again, so i’ll play into the green. i’ll use the same process with selective colour and colour balance to increase the greens until we get something like this
then once that colour is really vibrant aned solid you can go back into the hue/saturation in a new layer and play with the greens again. because it’s so solid it should change the colours pretty easily and so what we end up with is this with these hue/saturation settings:
and last but not least we have the amanda gif! this one was a little harder because the background wasn’t completely solid and is a few different colours which u can see here
but the most prominent colour i can see is green, so that’s the colour i choose to run with again. once again we use the colour balance and selective colour to get a bright green (and increase the black a little so the dark spaces don’t look too grainy or light) like this:
i use hue/saturation on green again to turn the green leaves into a yellow like this
this was the best i could manage but it still looked very muted and slightly green, so i went back into the selective colour again and played with the yellow this time and increased it enough so it ended up looking like this
then i increased the vibrancy because amanda looks a bit washed out against such a vibrant background, her skin looks kinda grey so playing with teh vibrancy makes her blend in a little better. but it still looks pretty dark and dull
so i adjusted the brightness one last time to give us this
chances are you’re going to end up with around a dozen layers for each gif and that’s totally normal, for the amanda gif i ended up with this many
if anything’s unclear or you need anything else feel free to drop me a pm!!! i hope this helped somewhat
