zuko is honestly written so delicately since the beginning of the series like his redemption never feels forced or jammed in because since the beginning all his rage and motivations are so clearly based on his trauma and a misguided attempt to deny his trauma’s existence and it’s so brilliant that we have iroh guiding him through so that you never truly take his antagonism too seriously, like you definitely understand he’s an antagonist and clearly you can see him doing wrong but, god. zuko is literally so cute, its so hard to even try and put him at the same level of any other sort of fire nation commander because he’s... SO cute and so easy to rile up and make him tantrum cuz he’s really just a kid and iroh knows it and makes that SO obvious to the viewer and it’s great

a detail i really love is that apparently most firebenders didn’t even know they’d be without their bending on the solar eclipse. everyone politically important knew and was stowed away somewhere safe during the black sun invasion, but all the average soldiers were literally just left to fend for themselves. they weren’t even given any sort of alternative weapons, they were just left to find out they were defenseless AS they were getting attacked. it’s just another great example of how ruthless the fire nation is because they’re just so willing to suppress information that risks their own citizens’ lives
