After The War, Levi: Of Certain Dreams

Spin-off for After The War: Chapter 13, Mikasa Segment VI

Before that, I just want to express my utmost gratitude to everyone who supported and read After The War. So many good comments, supports, and even arts I have been receiving and I swear, you all had made me shed a tear or two.

I have learned that one of our talented RivaMika artist had drawn a very good illustration of the rare sleeping Levi:

And I was so surprised that she was inspired by the little work of mine. Really... I was so speechless that time and I also felt the inward peace she might have felt just by imagining Levi; heavily in his slumber while sleeping peacefully.

So I decided to make a mini spin-off that took place in Levi’s point of view... and please if someone knows Ms. Lividayis’ tumblr, please tag her because this mini Levi spin-off is dedicated for her. I hope she likes it.

Of Certain Dreams

Sleep is a luxury.

A grand, imposing, palatial luxury that only a normal person in a world without walls can attain. At least that is what it means for him.

Maybe.

In a liminality of a dark depth, there he dreamt of countless sheeps and countless stars. He could feel the space was cold, immovable, and somewhere close to a ravine where salvation cannot be found.

At least that is what it means for him.

He felt himself squinting his eyes, unaware of the action that he was acting upon himself. The place he was stuck was somewhere new, moreover like a dream he has never been before. He inhaled as he exhaled. He breathed. Aloud and gasping.

But only his lips were slightly parted.

Fuck this shit.

"Levi, what took you so long?"

Someone was calling him.

But not really someone, yet it was someone who he really knew, who he knew he loved, but the memory felt so distant as time had taken the memory for a very long time. It was now close to undistinguishable.

Where the fuck am I?

His words are funny, yet he kept an unbothered face as he let the spasm of his feet take him to the liminality of a chasm he didn't even know in the first place.

Uncertain.

That's how he could describe it.

"What a fine young man, look how far you have grown."

That voice again. That sweet, cold, and empty voice but this time, he now knew where it was and who it was from.

No, this can't be fucking real.

"Well this can be real too, Levi. Except that you are in a dream."

A dream. The liminality that only happens in a deep-stricken slumber that he had never experienced before. Or might he had experienced, but the chaos and burden that abound by his shoulder had long taken the luxury of a dream-filled slumber away from him.

But now, it felt like the first time.

And someone he knew that he deeply missed for a very long time was there in his dream too.

"Mother, why are you even here? You're dead."

"Kenny did surely upbring you. Watch your tongue, Levi."

He gave a deep breath of relief. He laughed, and when he was done laughing, he gave his mother a small smile. A smile where it was close to peace and longing, of genuinity and certainty, and maybe a smile where it was close to the long forgotten memories of his childhood.

How he missed his mother.

"How long have you been here, mother?"

Because he wanted answers.

"For a long time. But today expires my stay here."

His body was still having spasms, somewhere in a mixture of sparks and caresses. He felt almost certain yet uncertain, but no, he wanted to stay a little bit longer in his sunken dream, making him ask his mother questions he wanted to ask her for a very long time.

"And why is that?"

"Because you had finally slept."

Levi felt like a scolded child.

"Sleeping isn't something of a special shit, mother. Perhaps, I rarely sleep."

"That explains the answer to your question. I must go now, Levi."

"But—"

"You now have the time in your world. Live certain with her."

And that was enough to keep his mouth from asking obvious things.

Her.

He watched her mother wave, a kind smile from her face blossom its way out of her beautiful face. She just disappeared like that, the way she appeared in the vision of his dream-filled slumber.

Perhaps, sleep has always been a luxury but not until in a cold weather afternoon where he found himself so tired that he decided to take a nap. That was not until he had really fallen asleep in a deep-stricken slumber where he finally dreamt something peaceful.

It was still dark, the liminality he had been enclosed with, but not until he had finally realized that she had been there beside him, giving him warm light touches and soft caresses.

His mother was right.

To live certain with her, with Mikasa Ackerman.

Falling asleep was a luxury.

But not until he had finally dreamt of certainties, of a certain world, and not just in a certain dream.

It was real, and it wasn't undeniably wrong that his reality was a peaceful reality where Levi had earned and deserved.

Even though Mikasa's bawdy hand and naughty touches disturbed him from the sweet peaceful dream-filled slumber he had, it was okay.

He could still dream again of certain dreams. Again and again.

"Mikasa, stop holding my cock."
