One thing I love is when artists create a new genre that they feel truly reflects their music, like how Liyv has done by calling her music Pastel Pop and I think her new song Stay Up With Me is a perfect representation of this genre. A shimmering perky pop track that is filled with nothing but joy, or so you may think as her music carries a double edged sword with the happy pop track hiding the darker undertones of her music. Then you merge that with the music video for the track, it’s clear to see she’s an Art Director and Illustrator, and you are transported to a quirky and surreal world that Liyv seems to live in.

Portland based electronic pop chameleon Liyv released her debut EP It Me last Friday. Aside from previously shared gems like Weeknight and Hot Lights, the six track enthraller also includes this dreamy pastel pop piece, We Could Be Famous. This one seems to live up to Liyv’s mantra about ‘making sad music for people who like bright colors’ even more than usual. It’s a wistful yet iridescent electro pop song dappled with soft entrancing staccato plinks and seasoned with supple enchanting, bittersweet lulling vocals. You can stream Liyv’s debut EP, It Me, in full on Soundcloud, here. Purchase from Bandcamp, here. Let its versatile assortment of electronic pop bedazzle you and tug at the sadness in your hearts.

It’s been a moment since we last heard from Portland based singer songwriter Liyv. Her song a month series ended last year, and we’ve been wondering when we’d hear from her again. Hot Lights is her first release of 2017, and it’s a truly effervescent future pop and bubbly carbonated electronic pop jewel. The fluorescent soundscape on Hot Lights is like a mix of Felix Snow with Cashmere Cat. The single is our first taste from Liyv’s forthcoming EP, expected to arrive later this year. The pastel flickering bop is available for purchase from Bandcamp, here.
