Obsessed with Blind! Eddie Munson meeting Steve and them hitting it off like instantly. And Eddie bragging constantly over the phone to corroded coffin/hellfire because Steve is great. He’s funny and bitchy and he makes all these sounds that drive eddie crazy —- anyway, he’s just super excited for his boyfriend to finally meet his friends.

And then when it finally happens it goes different than expected because yeah Eddie knows Steve is great…. What he didn’t know was…

“Holy shit,” Jeff says into the weird silence after Eddie’s introduction.

“What?” Eddie is worried.

“He’s hot,” Jeff says like it pains him to admit. “Like… like really, really hot. Like he might be a model hot.”

“Is he blind too? What’s he doing with Eddie?” Gareth asks under his breath and then grunts like he just got an elbow to the gut for it.

Steve just laughs. “Thanks,” he tells Eddie’s friends.

He doesn’t sound too embarrassed about it or like it’s a joke at all that his friends have concocted and holy shittttt

“Wait,” Eddie says quickly, twisting to hold Steve’s hands, “wait, wait, wait, are you— just how out of my league are you???”

“Eons,” Gareth wheezes.

“I’m not out of your league,” Steve says and Eddie can practically hear the eye roll as he tugs Eddie close and kisses him on the cheek. “Obviously.”

I’m not entirely sure who Skate Canada sold its soul to that it went from 1 viable ice dance team to 5, but this ice dance, so anything is possible. Perhaps I’m just buying into the hype, but here are my predictions for Nationals:

1. Marjorie & Jean-Luc - both have such strong ice dance skills and they seem to be gelling well. They will have at least NHK under their belts by then. I predict big things. Also, loving and enjoying what you do tends to show.

2. Marie-Jade & Romain - I think Skate Canada will have their backs and keep them second as they need to send them to Worlds strong. If they have half the off season they had last year they will start the season strong.

3. Hannah & Zak - Yes, they have been doing fun TikTok’s, but Zak has been burning bridges during the last quad, giving surly interviews and blowing CBC fluff pieces. Hannah has presence and great lift positions, but she sometimes struggles with footwork and patterns. I think this team will need the year to gel.

4. Alicia & Marko - This one feels like a risk. They looked good in their media day and I like their quality of movement together. Will her skating skills get stronger? His?

5. Layla & Alex - I’m hoping for a very strong start from them. The transition to senior is tough and there’s a lot of pressure on their shoulders.

6. Nadiia & Noe - Another risk. I really liked them last year and thought they needed time to gel. I’m also hoping the time at IAMO will have helped his skating skills.

7. Sandrine & Paul - This pairing baffles me. Their skating didn’t look that convincing in their media day. Bothe if them need work on their basic skills.

8. Amanda & Peter - If they are improving they should be making sure their social media posts reflect that. Right now every video makes it look like they paired up last week and are still working on basic stroking.

Light, Life, Greed: Charity as Passive Aggressive Jabs

Rose’s resentment of “kindness” and “charity”, while seeming juvenile is an expression of the real dynamics of charity and kindness at play in the real world. Namely, that kindness and charity can be given to quell civil disobedience/unrest and then retracted as soon as possible to continue the previous status quo. The aid is contingent on the sufferers compliance. It is basically saying “I can rescue you from the poverty I am complicit in, but you have to work for me”. I For a person to reject this charity, is seen as biting the hand that feeds. Thus the poor who refuse to enslave themselves are seen as “deserving”/choosing to be poor, while those who are wealthy are seen as magnanimously extending the olive branch. Suffice to say, Rose would absolutely hate a world like Beforeus, which is based entirely on this “pity culture”. By “assisting” the “unfit” (cullable) the wealthy elite are able to present themselves as benevolent while effectively enslaving others. It is an act of pure condescension. (Insert Condesce joke here) Being pitied, and treated with kindness rubs Rose the wrong way precisely because it reminds her of this dynamic between the rich and powerful and the poor and dependent.
