Ok but what even is a fertility goddess?

No seriously though. What is it?

The most we’re told is that fertility goddess’s are rare. And incredibly powerful. But there is zero insight as to WHAT their powers are. We see Persephone heal Ares, ep 100-101. Hades turned into a titan, ep 183. And when Persephone is mad she grows stuff out of her back?, ep 128. And these are explained to have happened because she’s a fertility goddess. The only other thing we know about them is that every generation has a fertility goddess that’s destined to be used to over throw the last generation?

We have NO other information otherwise.

And I really wish I could say that this is a “fill in the blanks from context clues” thing but RS can’t write like that. (Which the way she writes exposition is a whole other issue.) The best example of her terrible way of giving background information is in ep 238

In the first picture below Persephone says “Elysium” which is stated to be newly made by her but gives NO context as to WHAT it is and expects them to understand even though it was JUST made. (It’s where all the hero’s go for eternal paradise. And yes I had to look it up.) but immediately explains to Hermes what a Demi-god is? Please pick a lane! Are you going to over explain things or not explain anything and leave it to interpretation? And if you are going to do both could you please do it when it’s appropriate, (I.e. explaining what Elysium is but not explaining Demi-gods.)

I love Persephone with short hair honestly, it was cute (just maybe in a different style so she doesn't look like a Rachel self insert) and I loved her lighter colors in the pilot and earlier seasons compared to the highlighter pink we see now. Also wanted to add some green in there, since goddess of spring and all.

LO RAMBLE/THEORY

(It’s probably not going to be coherent so bare with me)

Does anyone think that Zeus constantly goes to the mortal realm because it was his first home? Bare with me it’s a far-fetched theory but hear me out….

Zeus was raised by nymphs until Rhea came and told him that he needed to fight Kronos. Now, Zeus was raised by a group of nymphs who he considered his mother/mothers, he was also constantly moving from place to place because Kronos was going crazy, so when Rhea came and told him she’s that she’s his mother and that he needs to rescue his brothers, and fight his father…yeah needless to say Zeus’s life was thrown upside down.

RS doesn’t give us much information about how Zeus rescues his brothers, how he developed his powers, or anything that isn’t Hera being a double agent (which is clever in its own right but wasn’t written well). RS doesn’t give us much on the aftermath when the war ended. My personal head-canon was that Zeus wanted to stay in the mortal realm but since he drew the metaphorical short in of the stick, he’s stuck ruling Olympus.

It goes back to the nymph prejudice problem, with Zeus ruling Olympus it shouldn’t exist. Nymphs were his first family. Also, while not condoning his constant cheating and just being a horrible partner, but maybe it’s easier for Zeus to connect to nymphs than his family and the other gods. But since Zeus developed a reputation as a serial cheater, Hera’s prejudice and the rumor mill on Olympus, the nymphs most likely put their guard up around him. So Zeus was rejected by the people he was raised around, we don’t know what Zeus’s adoptive family thinks of him but guessing since he was going to ask them to raise Dionysus…we can guess that their still close. We know that Zeus is close to Poseidon and Hades but I’m guessing he’s closer to Poseidon than Hades, since he’s more stand-offish.

I don't know if this has been brought up before, but

there is one important detail about Greek mythos that Rachel seems to have glossed over... Again. There were GODS of fertility. Not just goddesses, gods, including Hades and Poseidon themselves! And guess what? Metis wasn't even a fertility goddess (from the research I did). Demeter was, Persephone was, even Hera is a fertility goddess, but not Metis. You know who else is a fertility god??

ZEUS. Zeus is a fertility god! Now some might say that in LO, if they are fertility gods, they got it from a fertility goddess loving them. Counter point, Amphirite wasn't a fertility goddess. The only thing I could find on her possibly being a fertility goddess, is if we consider her existence pre-greek mythos where she was probably a mother goddess. But in Greek myth itself?? No, can't find anything. And guess what? Some believe that Artemis was a fertility goddess! So where is her all powerful powers?? Why isn't she going Mary sue on Apollos ass? Granted, in others she isn't consider a fertility goddess, but still.

Some might argue it's to create more drama. Bro... there are so many other ways to make drama. Rachel could have focused on the relationship of Hades and Zeus, the affairs that Zeus has, hell, maybe Zeus learning about the affair Hera and Hades had!! Maybe focus on Zeus's own trauma about having to constantly run in fear. Focus on Artemis and her learning about Persephone, or Hestia and Athena! Maybe focus on Eros and Psyche more?? Or even Eris and Hera? There was so many things that could potentially create drama, and Rachel sees none of it.

This is why the fertility goddess plot is stupid. It's not as special as Rachel thinks it is, and it isn't strictly a goddess thing. It doesn't make someone all powerful either. And even the debate of it being used to create drama is stupid because there is so much more that could've been used to make drama. Either way, it's stupid and I don't understand why Rachel added it in. It would've been a neat twist of it was seen as a big deal, only for it not to be since quite a few of the gods and goddess are ones of fertility to (including Kronos and Apollo). It would've been a nice twist to see that being a fertility wasn't what gave Persephone amazing powers. It was her learning how to control the powers she already had, and knowing when to let it go wild, her planning all of these things and the fight with Kronos instead of diving in head first and winning instantly.

Callingeneia! A naiad nursemaid of Demeter for Persephone, who was often worshipped as a goddess of the Eleusinian mysteries. She was also believed to be a surname for Demeter, or possibly Gaia! But personally, I like to believe she’s her own deity!

So someone mentioned this before, but how does Persephone know there aren't any nymphs on Nysa, despite her being born in Sicily, and the mountains being located in India, all the way to Arabia. Unless all the gods in LO have some knowledge of all places of the world (which I doubt, it's just cultural inconsistencies) when Hades barely remembered his own home?? Also, if Zeus didn't care about Dionysus in the slightest, he wouldn't have decided to take care of the fetus until it developed. So him just not giving a shit doesn't make sense

Ok so something that makes me upset with how they handled Zeus is that they don't recognize he was also traumatized as well, or at the very least could have been. Imagine you are running away from Kronos, who is your father who wants to eat you to keep control, constantly hearing his screams. You have to just keep running, and you are never safe. You get powers you don't understand, and no one else seems to have them (as far as we know), so you may question yourself there but not entirely. Then one day, out of the blue, your mom pops up out of nowhere . She tells you that you are indeed her son, that you need to use a fertility goddess in order to overthrow your own father, then she just "dies"... Yeah, totally not gonna be any mental scarring from that alone.

Then there is the fact you have to physically fight your father, or find some way to get your brothers out of him. Then you watch as your brother gets torn, bitten, ect. And I know this may never be brought up, but your own brother has an affair with your fuckin wife. You are aware that you cheat, and that you backslide, but your brother is being a fuckin hypocrite by having an affair with your wife.

I know this doesn't excuse the shit he does either, but it would've been interesting to see how the titanomachy affected him.

Ok so someone mentioned a good point on here (can't remember who, I'm sorry, if you see this please comment ;w; ) about the difference between Hercules and Lore Olympus. Again, while Hercules is not accurate, it has amazing writing, great songs, and is fun to watch. We know it's not accurate, but the writing is great and fun.

Then there is Lore Olympus, who's writing has been falling and failing for a while now. It's not even much fun to read anymore, it's just "let's just tumble to the ending to see if it will be god awful". Lore Olympus has characters that are awful, if you really look into them, but they don't even realize it or have any progress. Meanwhile Hercules, the characters realize their flaws and try and work on them.
