Araucaria (Araucaria araucana) antiguo, Fuerte Bulnes, Chile 2022.
I have been fascinated by this species since childhood as it was, at one time, a common landscaping tree in the Pacific Northwest. It is a native of the southern Chilean and Argentinian Andes a couple of hundred km from Fuerte Bulnes and 12,000 km from Seattle. It is often called a "monkey-puzzle tree" and is notable for its spiky foliage, a painful discouragement to those children tempted to climb one.
A Canadian style log building
Deep in rural New Zealand
A bakery and pizzeria
Owned by a Swiss - German couple, friends
I went out on Friday night
An unusual occurrence
Life is often disappointing
The sameness of experience
But not this night ...
