Hi, here's a RQOTD for you: Imagine a universe in which one of your main characters never existed. In which ways would this affect the people who know them?
Oooh, this is a fun one! I’m going to go with Carlo, because he’s had an enormous impact, both on Vittoria and the rest of his family. Hell, he’s had a big impact on Monte Vista because of his position in the gang.
First of all, Vittoria would be in a much worse state than she already is. If she didn’t just outright get killed without his help and protection, she would end up even darker and more cynical than she is. Carlo softened her considerably and I can’t imagine she would marry anyone but Carlo. If we do imagine she ended up with kids, though…
If she didn’t have a loving upbringing Regina would also be in a terrible state. She’s a big ball of rage in the story, but her big heart and warmth has been brought out by her loving upbringing. If she had been brought up where Vittoria was originally from, she would be even more negative than she is. Her mother is a lot less emotionally available and it would have meant that Gina would be, too.
Another character who would be affected include Camillo, Carlo’s brother. If Carlo hadn’t been there for him after their father’s death, Camillo would have sunken deeper into his depression and become a recluse.
Gina’s brother and sister, Giuliano and Marta, would be severely affected, too, since they wouldn’t have had the safe, comfortable, and loving upbringing they did. Marta already has mental issues because of her troubled childhood and without Carlo, she never would have gotten professional treatment.
