“My opinion on the other wolf like one? She’s really rather interesting. I’d always been so very different from those of my own race, but this is another level. In a refreshingly good way too.

Sylvia is clearly a strong willed, keen eyed being. I admire her clear ideas of the world. Not necessarily black and white, but everything seems clearer to her than to I. I’d be remiss to not admit there’s something extremely attractive about meeting someone who isn’t immediately considering me a walking party trick.”

1. Dorian Pavus - Dragon Age Inquisition - Inspired Valyn

Alright, is he the most perfect example of a queer character? No. Is he a lean on stereotypes that he’s against? Yes. Is he a fun as fuck character that I can actually romance as a dude and get my little mitts all over? Of course. Is he a fair chunk of where Val first started? Definitely.

2. Garrus Vakarian - Mass Effect Series - Inspired Valyn & Mun

His nonchalant leadership style while still commanding authority was always something I drank it way too much. He was always cool and methodical, but had this wondrous sheen of personality sitting under there. His logical approach actually impacted on me far more than I’d like to admit.

3. Klaus - Umbrella Academy Graphic Novels and Show - Inspired Mun

I’m going to preface this by saying that identity is a lot of things. While Klaus wasn’t the first character to ever show me that identity could be what I wanted it to be for me, he certainly stuck as a major player. As someone who looks distinctly cis-masc, but identifies as Demi representation wise, Klaus helped me clarify that. The idea of him as a character not being any one thing, but just being Klaus, helped me an absolute tonne in generalising myself in a way I felt comfortable with.
