(so this occurred to me)
Longmire 5x01 vs 6x10
some details i have noticed of which i approve
1. 6x03
on the right we have this gentleman in walt’s court scenes being kind of hard to miss in this particular shot since this is when vic runs in yelling for walt. what i didn’t notice until making the gifs of the earlier scene between vic, walt, and dave is that we see him enter the courthouse in the background of that conversation.
there are so many extras in the courthouse scenes that who’s coming and going in the background barely registers. it wouldn’t have mattered if we never saw this guy walk in — and i certainly never registered him all the times i’d watched this scene before — yet there he is. it’s such an insignificant thing, really, and yet being aware of it makes me love this stupid show even more. knowing that the people who worked on it took this kind of care... honestly i don’t really know how to explain it except that it makes me feel good and it, in a way, validates my belief that the details are always important, even when you think nobody is likely to notice them.
2. 6x04
vic’s blood is on the outside of the passenger door of the bronco courtesy of walt’s hands. obviously he had to touch the door to put her in and since he was carrying her, he had blood on his hands. of course it would get on the door. but is anyone actually looking at anything but vic in this shot? i know i never am. even the placement tells a story: there are more marks on the left, indicating that the blood was transferred both while he was opening and closing the door; on the right there’s only a smudge, which would’ve been made when he was closing the door. he put vic in the truck, fastened her seatbelt, and then held the door with both hands so he could shut it very carefully, without jostling her.
OH GOOD GOD MY HEART
and now, a detail that has been bothering me since 2016 and of which i most strenuously do not approve
5x01
THIS HIDEOUSNESS.
did anyone honestly think we wouldn’t notice it? seriously? it’s obvious in every freakin’ scene, partly because the extensions are too long, but mostly because they are so clearly separate from her natural hair. i understand that katee’s shorter hair had to be camouflaged since this episode follows on immediately from 4x10, but the extensions even move independently! as far as i can tell no effort was made to actually incorporate them into her hair; they’re literally just wrapped around her ponytail and threaded through underneath. wtf?!
That's it. That's the show.
