Defense Base Act and Longshore Act FAQs

The Defense Base Act and the Longshore and Harbor Workers Compensation Act are complex laws. Those insured under those laws sometimes have difficulty getting the medical care they need or they must fight for the benefits they deserve.

If you are now or were a civilian working for a U.S. Contractor overseas when you were injured, you may be eligible for benefits under the Defense Base Act. 

If you work on a dock or in a harbor on any coast of the United States, the Longshore and Harbor Workers Compensation Act covers you while you are working.

If you are injured on the job as an employee of a U.S. contractor overseas or if you are injured while working as a longshoreman or harbor worker, you may not be aware of the benefits you are entitled to.
