The person who said they say zeuven rather than zeven (7) in NL Dutch accents - that’s untrue, only some accents do that and the rest of them kind of laugh at them for it :P

Oh also Flemish Dutch uses a must softer sound for g, I think it’s the one represented by gamma in the IPA?

This post is for you, loomeen, and let me explain why: So, I work at a translation agency. To entertain ourselves during the long hard work week, all of us at the office like to email each other funny translation-related humor we find online. Yesterday one of my co-workers sent all of us this exact screencap. Everyone was cracking up over it and I was the only one sitting there bursting with pride wanting to yell “This was reblogged via loomeen! That’s Cal! We’ve been mutuals on Tumblr forever!!! :DDD” ...but I didn’t, because no one would have had any idea what I was talking about. But still, it kind of made my day. :)

I think adding à moi or whatever after is for emphasis? Like it’s like stressing the “send ME the documents” in English, since you obviously can’t stress the elided ‘m’

Breadcakes - the eternal dilemma. I'm from the south where we usually say '(bread) roll', but study in Sheffield, where most people say bun (which to me is exclusively one of them but with some sort of sweet icing or filling or whatever, or a burger bun); I do however have friends from less central areas of the city who say breadcake. Bap is also fairly common in some areas, but I always get told off by 'natives' for calling them rolls, and I get the "blorry suth'ner" look.

for me "bun" is a hugely vague umbrella term for sweet things hahaha, practically like our equiv of the french pâtisserie even

To the anon who asked about Swedish and Italian - Swedish is to English more like Italian to is like... I dunno if there's really a proper comparison. But Swedish, being a North Germanic language (whereas English, German and Dutch are West), is like... not really comprehensible by a non-linguistically-attuned native Anglophone, whereas Italian and French are far more m-intelligible. There are clear similarities though, and they become more evident as you learn! I suggest both languages to anon!
