Frances Elkins
Frances Elkins is one of my favorites. I love the way she combined different periods in her interiors. (Hey, this was the 30s -- pairing French Country with chinoiserie was scandalous!) Most are familiar with her Loop Chair (one of my top five in best chairs of all time).
Downtown at Claremont's repro version:
And their steel version for outdoors:
Elkins other classic is the Spider chair. Queen Anne knees and pad feet combined with a Spanish-style shield back (and aren't those stretchers Tudor-ish?). Beautiful. Here they are in a card room done by Elkins. Can you believe this is from 1937?? So modern! (You know, the card room should really make a comeback.)
From Mecox Gardens:
And a repro from Bobo Intriguing Objects:
(And PS! Adore the Loop Chair stamps!)
