talking about this for the 7 millionth time for anyone whos been watching me go crazy over sinister minds the past three weeks:

i looove beauty and do on a surface level find it empowering as a trans person but i do find the manipulation interpretation of it way more interesting, that empowerment mostly being flattery to get you to an end goal. lord x trying to "empower" this trans woman by pushing her to take the body he wants her to in this overly sappy serenade of a song pushing emphasis on her physical beauty (referencing her ability to "give love", calling her "babe", etc) and how she's not living if she doesn't take this chance and when she won't do it for herself then to "do it for [him]", the lyric "if you want it, really really want it" implying that she doesn't really want it if she won't do it his way, as it's not about what she "really really wants" as much as it's about how he can give it to her and his ulterior motives for doing that

even in its most charitable interpretation (one where lord x is suddenly a nice guy doing something selfless for someone even if he will hurt her in the end, which ngl i think does a disservice to the layeredness of the lyrics) there's still the fact he's doing this to ultimately have power over her, in this body he picked out for her that he wants to use for his own goals - no matter how many nice words he dresses it up in, and even if he means them, he's still doing this to lure her in and torture her

(especially because, even if sinister minds isn't Canon, i think that adds more weight to kylie still ending up in a body she doesn't want, where lord x only sees her gender as something to be appealed to, he's still violating her bodily autonomy even in an outwardly 'affirming' way. which, in a way, is torturing her more, potentially making her feel selfish for having these doubts, because shouldn't she be grateful he's supportive enough to gender her correctly to begin with?)

^^ think of how trans surgeries are considered cosmetic, how even other trans people can view correct gendering as a privilege to be taken away if the trans person in question doesn't "deserve" it - kylie is a very strong person and highly values her independence and autonomy, but she still feels like a monster for trying to ease her dysphoria. sure, there's the dramatization of her being a horror character taking clothes off corpses, but i think the shame here is something any trans person can relate to

it bothers me both when beauty is taken as a straightforward Trans Positivity Song (with the start and end of consideration of kylie being "aw haha the evil demon is an ally!" and not really about her side of things and the fact this 'empowerment' still leads her to a fate worse than death) and when overcorrection for that attitude becomes "why would the evil demon support trans people?! he should be misgendering her!! for Realism!!!" because i REALLY like beauty for what it is and think that having transphobia in horror shouldn't just be shallow, straightforward misgendering angst, this aspect of a man taking advantage of a vulnerable woman to mold her into what he thinks a woman should be because he likely sees trans people as more desperate and thus easy to lure in with the promise of a new body (that he is going to torture for all eternity) is really REALLY good

and i do still consider beauty a trans anthem tbh, i do find it awesome and empowering, genuinely, to have the trans experience considered in a story like this beyond the shallow "evil guy is a surprise ally!" or "evil guy is a cartoon bigot!", to have lord x this horror icon be hateable in this such personal way - i like to have this big part of my life not handled with kid gloves and getting a cool multifaceted work of art like beauty because that shows that being trans is actually... important and multifaceted an experience! and can be an inciting incident or cool horror trope like any other character trait, which, ymmv of course, and obviously it depends on the media in question, but i honestly find cooler than if kylie being trans was just, like, a footnote and lord x had nothing whatsoever to say about it, or if she was given generic misgendering angst

when Kerrha found the strange Na'vi stumbling into his abode, and the sanctuary of his father, he really planned to kill him. But he held back at the sheer excitement the strange mimic had towards him and he was wise to do so. The Na'vi called himself Re'Write and he used something called an 'Avatar' as he wasn't original one of their kind.

Avatar, an empty husk waiting to be filled, usually temporarily, by a soul. Keve'o needs a body, it is what Kerrha has been searching for and at last, he may have found a method to bring his father to the same planes as himself.

But why is he feeling something strange about this Re'Write?
