Finally broke down a bit ago and made a playlist for Orrien because I guess I'm writing some pre-Aetherra oneshot stuff now??? Fine.

(There is, of course, some Falling Up in this playlist. I know Jessy says there's no connections between these universes, but I quite simply do not believe him. Maybe it's not intentional but I SEE it. 😂)

Not in any particular order right now, although I might get around to that later.

I forgot to mention one of the best parts of the chaos that was the Reimagined livestream chat

while Jessy was off taking a break, all hell broke loose. among other chaos, I asked the chat whether they knew what kind of fish is on the YSDC vinyl jacket. (I keep asking my dad (whose special interest is Fish) and he keeps not answering my texts)

short version is that we've now dubbed it Lore Fish, and later in the Patreon server, a friend and I started spouting off the most insane headcanons for Lore Fish that we could think of

he's like the Great Deku Tree but a space fish. Tom Bombadil, but a space fish. etc.

(my actual headcanon is that the Lore Fish is somehow related to Lore of Aetherra via the bluefins in Chrysal Lake.)

my playlist for Orrien is still in no particular order, but I keep thinking about how much I love this particular song. both for him and in general, it's my absolute favorite VNV track

something I adore about VNV is this recurring thing about how hope and love and joy -- the things that make us human -- are the things that get us through. the world is on fire. we cannot endure without them. we have to do the work, there is so much of it to be done, but we cannot lose hope.

and that's such an integral part of Orrien's character to me. maybe I'm projecting but it's just... ugh

keep going because you have to. because nothing will get better unless you do.

because dawn will come eventually.

thinking about the Dimlight and what sorts of beautiful fucked-up things Orrien was trying to contain when he built the Fringe

like we see a bit of it in TLD, but I want to see Creatures

yeah okay Dark Symmetry is gonna be super fun, and I'm very glad we waited for it to come out before starting TLD so I can work in a bunch of super fun weird stuff from the jump

I am once again crying about the bond between Orrien and Gilgazo.

"The Lost Druid" lore/campaign spoilers under the cut.

Orrien loved Gilgazo so much. Enough to betray his trust to save him from himself. How it doesn't matter if Gilgazo hates him for trapping him in the Eternal Eden, all that matters is that Orrien knows he's safe -- his aether dependence will never consume him, and he'll never become like the Osia Phon.

And 1000 years later, Gilgazo doesn't even seem angry about it -- even though he is (to my reading anyway) very much haunted by the nature of the Eden. The way he talks about it to Fawn, when he tells her about her father, is chilling. But he's clearly mourning, every time we encounter a reminder of Orrien's death in the campaign, even after he's had a bit to collect himself. The grief he feels is clearly fresh and immediate, but there's no impulse toward anger in it -- just pain and heartache and missing his friend.

I think their friendship is my favorite thing about TLD's worldbuilding. It's subtle, but Orrien is present through the lore , and it feels like he's haunting the narrative the whole time in a very loving way. Kinda want to write about him.
