Los Angeles Corona Virus Quarantine Day 1 - LA - Santa Monica Pier
3/20/2020 -- Day 1 of California Gov. Gavin Newsom's "Stay-at-Home" Emergency Order regarding the coronavirus (COVID-19) restricted-movement directive. One of the most startling realizations is the preternatural stillness apparent in normally raucous California cityscapes and other usually crowded public locations. Birdsong. Silence. Ocean sounds in otherwise packed beach areas. The crackle of rustling palm tree fronds in the wind. The click of claws on the sidewalk as an escaped dog trots by, oblivious to the air of tangible tension pervading the suddenly deserted scenes. Quiet is an anomaly here, a weird new normal as a deadly unseen virus belligerently stalks our public and private spaces. An air of tense expectation hovers like heat waves rising over the evacuated sand: how many more weeks/months before we can safely 'go loud' together again?
